Thanks John

Any idea what resistance one should measure on that unit?

I was sort of thinking maybe the confusion comes in as that resistor likely uses the manifold as a heat sink or even the inlet air to cool it as well. They could have mounted it on the firewall or somewhere else.

I just sorted out where you are at on the Island... My mom was from Duncan... relatives in CobbleHill and Shawnigan Lake..

cheers

Picking on this thread which seems to be the closest to my questions...

So I began diving into why my intake heater doesn't work. It's a 12ht swap (12v) into a HJ75. From what I can tell - and apologies for my potentially wrong nomenclature, wiring isn't my strong suit - but there's a wire going to the heater from a relay and then the relay goes into the wiring harness. There's a negative (black) wire that isn't attached to anything that is coming from the same wiring harness but doesn't appear to be tied into the relay. Here are some photos... any thoughts? Is there a way to test the system? Voltage meter, etc? Cheers.

Ok, let me ask this. Is there a way to wire a direct toggle switch to the glow screen and battery, bypassing all existing wiring? Or would that melt the unit?

You should be able to do that using a starter relay.

The glow screen on my 13bt powered landrover is connected via a starter relay and aftermarket glow timer.

You use battery cable between the batteries and relay, and relay and screen. In my case the timer supplies power to the relay, but you could just use a momentary switch instead.

Yeah, I was going to add a switch to the left of the steering wheel (RHD) and just power it up. We have very cold nights, even for the summer here, and cold starts are rough in June. I can only imagine when it's -10ºC at night.
