Hi, It seems as thought my glow plugs might not be working.
The truck starts great when the temp is above freezing but when the temp dips below freezing the truck seems to not want to start with out almost draining the battery. bought a new 1000 cca batttery and still the same results.
Does anyone have any parts numbers for glow plusfor the 3L
could injectors be a problem? If they are not spraying right?
I have not instaled a block heater yet but will probably instal a lower rad hose heater. But I should not need this yet until temp dip below 20c or so right?
has anyone hooked up double batteries on the hilux is it a good idea, would it be harder on the alternator?
thanks
hope this is not a repeat question.
I whould have taken care of this a while ago but been procrastinating too much lately, or just too busy.

same as 2lt

I am fairly sure that the glowplugs for the 3L and the 2lt are exactly the same. There is a thread just below that gives the p/n's for the 2lt glowplugs. Where are you located? my 3l starts in less than a full revolution in -10 weather, Also I have a good used set from my 2lt if you would like to try them first. I do believe that you can postpone installing new glow plugs if install a lower rad hose heater and preheat the coolant. I bought mine at napa for my 2lt and they were approx $25.00 each.

I don't think the coolant heater will help if it's very cold and the glow system isn't working. It didn't on mine. My glow plugs still aren't working and even with the coolant heater my truck wouldn't start. It's much nicer today -1C so I'll go try again today.

you need the lower rad hose heater, makes a world of difference. my hdj will start even at -20 but it's rough w/ the heater super smooth. my town ace didn't even want to fire at -5 now whatever the temp no issues. diesels don't like the cold if it drops below zero i like to plug mine in. do the heater then decide if you want to do the plugs.

The heater is good - but what do you do if you are not near a plug in? Replace the plugs - and install a heater.

Do the plugs...period. I don't even see it as being in question. The plugs will make more difference than anything else. I started my surf all last winter without being plugged in even once. There were temps easily below -25C.

Make sure your getting power to the GP's first

then test each one ....they do NOT all die at once, if you have 2 dead it will not start

there are 2 differant ones though (voltage ) I think.....

Hi I am sorry for not updating this post.
I bought some glow plugs on ebay. they came from the UK. about 82bucks cad, total with shipping.
the truck starts like a charm. easiest glow plugs I have ever replaced.compared to vw and even 3b.
bought ngk plugs. super happy, and saved about 125 bucks from buying from toyota dealer.
