Here is the question .. are very very simple maybe just an opinion. I let the timer to the job each morning ( here no less than 22ºC at cold mornings ) after that I start my engine.

Usually I lunch out of my office, so I start my engine ( talking about my HDJ-80 ) at once the same think at night when I go to my home.

If I let the TLC all day ( no go out at lunch for example ) in the parking I let the glow plug timer do the job ..

The question is .. all times you use the glow plug timer . ?

Not sure I understand David,
Is there an overide(off) switch on the 80 for glowplug timer, or a control to go manual?

22c should only be a quick glow anyhow. Thats pretty hot out :)

This morning my Mercecdes took about 30 seconds on the timer to glow. Then it started no problem.

It was about -13c. Not really cold. But I think I was max on the timer.

H442F Changin speed when is cold.

This is another issue I thought temp related.

In the morning I usualy drive very slow, under 2000 rpm, until the engine warmup. So the issue is, in this time the tranny start fine first, after second speed, normal, but inmediatly goes down to 1st speed, and continue to 2nd, and 1st and 2nd .. until it come to normal operative temp.

When it reach normal operative temp all goes fine ..

thoughts . ?

There is a limit on the transmission I think that doesn't allow the tranny to go into 4th till up to temp.

My T100 had the 440 tranny I think, it did that. Would not go into the higher gear till the engine coolant was registering mid way.

SO you can not get into third gear?

OD off in all cases .. maybe the option is doing in 1st all the way until the tranny and engine warmup .. ?

don't the gasser engines use the same tranny?

post this question up in the 80 section too. They have great knowledge of those trannys.

David,

I use the glow plug timer only in the mornings or at night .... whenever I'm in a hurry I don't even use it .... she starts just fine .... I use the timer so she turns as soon as I crank her and therefore putting less strain on my battery .... I don't really need it ....

If I'm running errands and I'm turning the car on and off alot I don't use the timer either ....

In our climate the glow plugs aren't really needed (or at least we don't HAVE to use them all the time).... especially since our rigs are direct injection .... maybe your 2H (on the 60) does need the glow plugs all the time since it is not direct injection .... but on the 1HD-T the ambient temperature here is usually hot enough to turn her over just fine ....

save those plugs for Boquete!

Thanks all your comments ..

Tito .. in my 2H engine I just use the glow plugs only in the mornings .. my 2H have a really good compresion and no problem with starts, no more than 2 turns of the starter to run.

I use the full glow in the morning (but I'm running partial SVO) but if I have driven in the last few hours, I just glow for maybe five seconds, then start. It starts a little bit rougher, but not much, and runs fine in just a moment afterwards.

Midday temps for me are usually around 30* or more. sitting in the sun, the temp guage usually reads about 115 F (the water temp guage)

In the summertime with my manual glowed BJ42 it is glow once in the morning, and do not touch the glow again all day, unless sitting for hours and hours, and even then it is less glow then 1st thing in the morning.
