Glove compartment latch

How is the glove compartment door kept in place in the closed position? I know this sounds stupid but this is my first 55 and there is nothing. Not in the door or in the frame, to start with

It is held in place by spring tension. The hinge is a spring loaded deal that has resistance throughout the center 90% of its travel. Overtime, they loosen up a little, but not badly.

Replacement. The padded part is hard to come by in nice shape, but the hinge part is an easy find. Just buy a peeled, messed up one , and use your door if it is in better shape. Check out the hinge and see if you can bend it to increase resistance.
