I just ordered the glass polishing kit from Eastwood and used it to do my windshield and rear hatch window the other day. This thing is nice. It doesn't really remove any scratches, but it did make them much less noticable, and visibility was greatly improved, along with my wipers' ability to clear the glass.

What other polishes do you guys use for your rigs? I know some use Spot-X and really like it. How about the rest of you? I plan to order Eastwood's deep scratch remover (for glass also) when I get back from my deployment.

A general rule of thumb is that if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail (approx 0.040"), it can't be buffed out without creating distortion in the glass. Side & rear windows are tempered & therefore harder than your windshield.

We use serum oxide & a felt buffing wheel in the shop to remove minor scratches. Many so-called "scratch removal systems" have been introduced in the last few years, but we're skeptical (besides, we're in the glass REPLACEMENT business).

Don't think your windshield is worth spending a lot of time on unless it's otherwise perfect. A new one should be in the $150-250 range.

Yeah I'm thinking maybe when I get back from Kyrgyzstan I'll look at having a new one put in. If not that then at east having the gasket replaced to fix that damn leak.
