gif turns into jpg when uploaded?

I tried to upload an animated .gif file with the manage attachments window. When it uploads the .gif... it turns into a .jpg file. ?

not really a question, just never seen that happen.

nevermind... the gif was too big. I guess it can pull off the first image in a big gif and turn it into a jpg?
