What are the specs? I bought a 97 Limited 4runner about a year ago and love it. It has the E Locker and 32" ATs. It does great in just about everything I put it through.

*IIRC the locker option also included the modified sway bar so it clears the motor assembly?

Curious b/c we're considering long-term options for another rig.

doesn't sound like a half-bad idea, not that Wimpy's unsuitable, but it'll be more economical to transfer whatever compatible mods you have into a newer rig than to upgrade the motor.

Yep. When the time's right I'll pass it onto Lil'Bro or sell it through here, or keep it as the w/e toy.

So skyehunter, I forsee a ROTM thread in the works?? Ehh, ehh? :hhmm: :D

....weel c, been shopping lift kits all week. Leaning towards the Toytec Ultimate, or a step down...Working on a drawer system/platform bed for the back, and mounted CB already...Think i'll go outside and mount the GPS operated notebook....c u round :)

progress...

Made a drawer system..figure my boy will sleep on top of box and I will take the lower side. Workin on a roof rack, drew it up just making some final decisions, the Rage rack is not to much more expensive than materials to build one. Any thoughts on this rack?

Overland Expo motivated me to make some changes with my setup. The boy kept rolling onto me throughout the night. Needed a table that was easer to store and a flat bed. When the seats fold down wood makes a full length platform all the way to the front seats. Awning is more compact than Ez up....weel c how it goes on the next adventure.

My favorite was my old 96. Every time I see that truck (sold to a buddy), I get pissed off at myself. Picked up a very high mileage 99 Limited. It needs more work than I thought it would, but I'm looking forward to getting a few things done and making it my DD. I prefer the 99-00 models myself. Like the (rare in MN) silver dash on the sport.

LOL, you sound exactly like my Dad. He sold me his 4Runner with only 65,000mi
And regrets it! I've done some moderate wheeling with it in the Sierras and the VSC/trac really saved our butts in a blizzard near Laramie. Just did the big service/timing belt at 100,000. My DD.

I personally love my 3rd Gen! It looks great, is suprisingly very capable even without an E-locker, and runs great! I've had mine for 7 years, and have only had to replace the starter, u-joint, and rear axle seals and diff breather.

I don't plan on wheeling it too much anymore....planning on keeping it as prestine as possible....but when I did take it out, it handled terrain just as well as any modified Jeep!

Hey fightman..good looking rig. What size of rubber is on it? any lift? Where did you get the rear tire carrier and how does it attach?

Thanks for the compliment man! I've got 33's on there, and have about 3" of lift in the front, using Tundra TRD edition Struts, and 4 - 4.5" of lift in the back using some 8 wrap Landcruiser coils.

The tire carrier, is custom built by me and some friends and family! It's attached to my towing package.

For more info, check out my build thread....all the pics and write-ups can be found there.

Thx, I made two 40" x 60" boxes with 45 degree corners. Then butted 3" legs between top and bottom. Did the same for the legs with 1/4" x 1" plate for the feet.. lots of welding. cost $52 so far. Goin to weld up a solid folding awning to drivers side next i think.
