I was looking for a sticky or something that might answer this, but I'm looking for recommendations on what specifically you guys would recommend for a general recovery kit. Tow strap? Chains? 50' recovery rope?

I don't have a winch quite yet and would like to have some gear to carry just in case. What do you guys recommend any cruiser driver carry?

Personally, I carry: 6-8 shackles, ARB tree strap, 30' tow strap, 30' 7/8 bubba rope, two snatch blocks, 60" hilift with wabbit foot, and a shovel. I've used everything in my recovery kit more than once. On winter or early spring wheeling trips, I typically carry a chainsaw as well.

Awesome, that's what I needed to know. Any specific brand for the shackles and straps? I know the tow straps in particular can be pretty hit and miss as far as quality is concerned.

Also why not carry a shorter tow strap for tighter recoveries and use the 30' 7/8s bubba when you have more room?

I have a variety of shackles (beast, ARB, smitty), 30' tow strap is HF, bubba is bubba (ASR in the Tundra). If I need a shorter strap, I fold it.
Oh, and a tow strap is a much different tool than a kinetic recovery rope.

Good point.

Thinking about going with this two shackles with a 30' strap, seems they're made in the US.

Just a couple of options from WARN:

Medium Duty Epic Recovery Kit: Warn Industries - Rigging Accessories for Jeep, Truck & SUV Winches: Medium-Duty Epic Recovery Kit
Heavy Duty Epic Recovery Kit: Warn Industries - Rigging Accessories for Jeep, Truck & SUV Winches: Heavy-Duty Epic Recovery Kit
Medium Duty Winching Accessory Kit: Warn Industries - Rigging Accessories for Jeep, Truck & SUV Winches: Accessory Kit

These will come with two shackles, a snatch block, tree strap, recovery strap, gloves, and bag. The Epic one is a bit more high-end (available in medium- and heavy-duty; and our standard kit is still a good one.

A tree snatch, 100' winch rope and Hilift tire grabber can be a nice addition.

2 or 3 screw type shackles, snatch blk, chain, gloves, a tree saver/shorter strap about 10ft+ & a couple 30ft long straps.
