Have just replaced fluids in gearbox, transfer case and two diffs. In all cases except gearbox, the drain plug was magnetised. Is there any reason why the gearbox would not have a magnetic plug ? Looked exactly the same as the fill plug.

Normally it would have. Perhaps it has been replaced at some time by a fill plug. The magnet is a good idea but not critical enough to dash out and get a new one today. Put it on your to-do list for later.
