Ok. I’ve had enough. Somebody must know of a way to permanently shut off all the damn “safety” bull**** in these things. I just about got killed today when I hooked up a trailer and tried to back it into my driveway. The damn thing wouldn’t let me back up as it kept “sensing an impending collision”. It locks the brakes up and you can’t move. Yes, all the acronyms on the dash were off. PCS, RCTA, Park Sense, Safe Exit. ALL of it was turned off and the effing thing kept hammering the brakes on.

I’m over it. Is there a dingle or dangle or whatever the cool kids are calling it that can be purchased and plugged in to turn this s*** off???
I agree with everything you said. I was cussing out the stupid safety system yesterday when backing up with a bike rack.

I don't like "warning" lights and "none stop messages" popping up on the dash, so I leave the nannies turned on.

I also forget to turn them off when the bike rack is attached. The system reminds me they are still on by slamming the brakes on when I'm attempting backing up. It still beeps at you, even when you disable the park sensors.

200 series had a park sensor button that you only had to press once and they are off for good. No warning lights or messages.

Please go back to the previous ways!

Maybe it’s the Westcott lift? I went with another brand and maybe my 1958 is rebelling?

As mentioned, a big part of my issue is moving trailers with no wiring, which is an almost daily thing for me. Do you unplug your trailer when you launch? (I always do). Next time you splash the boat, unplug your trailer for the back down the ramp. Let us know what it does.
I have towed twice with the 250 my boat and trailer weigh around 5k and it’s a dual axle trailer with no brakes so I Just plug in the lights hit that button and the only thing is when I back the boat in it beeps but nothing crazy.

My favorite beep is when I’m pulling up to a stop sign or light with my blinker on and it’s a four lane road. When a car is next to me stopping also, my Toyota thinks I’m gonna change lanes so the blind spot monitor beeps at me just because there’s a car there.

I wonder if the boat is far enough back that it doesn’t feel the need to slam on the brakes? On my 24’ deep vee boat, it sits quite a ways back, so the only thing that would be in close proximity to the sensors would be the tongue. The other trailers are straight across walls of aluminum only a couple of feet back.

man, I feel your pain. I heard using the 7-pin trailer connection instead of the 4-pin can trick the truck into disabling some of that annoying “nanny” stuff while towing. also, some folks use OBD2 dongles or modules that can tweak or turn off certain alerts, but be careful with those ‘cause you don’t wanna kill all safety either. definitely check if your dealer or forums have some hidden setting or workaround for your model. good luck.

yep, great stuff, Toyota is training us not to use our blinkers.

Using the 7 pin on a completed trailer does disable some of the safety stuff, once you clear the screen of warnings of your imminent demise, but mine still has hiccups. Since I move trailers that are just shells daily, it’s an issue. If anyone knows of a OBD2 plug-in that would allow these things to be turned off I’d love to hear about it.

The owners manual describes the safety features that are automatically turned off when the 7-pin is used as well as the other safety features that need to be disabled when towing

I have the Carista plug-in device to override many of the standard settings and turned off many of the beeps and warnings that constantly are going off. Should be able to tweak those settings for towing as well.

I have had no issues with mine? Backing up etc no problems and it doesn't matter if the trailer plug is plugged in or not. You hit the car/cone button on the left and it won't emergency brake on you. For all the beeping I silence the screen with one touch with the speaker symbol. Once you press the car/cone button it stays off until you press it again even when you restart the vehicle. However to silence the beeping you have to press the speaker button everytime you backup again.

I’m going to admit to being dumb. I missed the button and was doing everything in the settings on the screen. I tried the button thing yesterday and it seemed to work on the one trailer (a skeletonized motorcycle trailer). I’ll try that again with the Airstreams. If this works, I’ll be thrilled, but I still stand by the fact that you shouldn’t have to reset your settings every damn time. The RCTA still goes off if I back up to a blade of grass etc. Otherwise, I love this thing. I’m sure all the other brands have similar tech nannies, and it’s just a sign of where cars in general are heading…

That was one of my biggest gripes with the new LC. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is very intrusive and quite obnoxious where many nannys automatically come back on every time you start the vehicle. FCTA and this backup brake to name a couple.

Toyota needs to think about who they’re selling cars to. Insurance companies and the government, or consumers who are buying your car?

Ironically, the monthly insurance premiums for my LC 250 were around $240 a month, while my 2016 LC was $140. So all the new fragile sensors on these vehicles to sense the Nannie’s features, actually end up hiking up the premiums. That’s why small fender benders easily cost 10k+ to fix now.
All true, but it’s not only about “who” Toyota is selling cars to. In countries such as U.S.A, Australia, Most of Europe etc. these features are mandated by government. Implementation is key however.

I had the same issue as the OP. I turned off the automatic parking brake and it stays off. I do wish it would work automatically with the 4pin because the ols Tundra and Tacoma did. My 100 never had this stuff so never needed it. This was my first gripe about this truck too many nanny things. Wait til you put it in low range. It shuts off all the parking sensors and it tells you it shut them off every minute until it is back in high range.

Now my biggest gripe is the tailgate doesn't open unless the doors are unlocked. If the truck is running and only the drivers door is unlocked and the car is in drive the gate will not open. So when I pull up so my wife can put the groceries in the back I have to put it in park unlock all the doors and only THEN can I open the tailgate. If I'm in the driver's seat then why can't I just push the button there is zero need for this.

is putting it in park that big of a deal? I mean you are just sitting there already....
prob to keep people from running over family members when loading things,
small price to pay for the catastrophic consequences of a one time faulk up .... all things considered

You have to turn off the automatic rear brake assist on the center console screen. The parking sensor one is not going to fix your problem.
