My tacho stopped working in my 80 and I have tried another gauge cluster and the tacho works when it is fitted to that gauge cluster, but when I put the tacho into my gauge cluster it wont work??

So I swapped out both the tacho and speedo from the working cluster into my one. Still won't work. So is there a component in the cluster itself that fails or what?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Do yourself a favor, download the ECM and FSM for your model. They are in the resource section.

Is the igniter original or aftermarket?

The tachometer gets its signal from the ECM, which I believe gets its RPM signal from ignitor.

The FSM goes through the procedure to diagnose a bad tach and one of the things to look at is the igniter.

For testing, one can drive a tach with a function generator, outside of the cluster.
