What specs do I ask for on sizing for this hose from the auto parts store? I'm going to attempt to do it myself (not the bypass just a straight change out). I had planned to order a silicone hose work torq clamps but I don't know if I want to wait on shipping. I would assume I need to cut the hose to length.

yes cut to length, use the old one as a guide but its only 3'' or so but you'll likely have to buy a foot.
The silicone has had some weeping issues anyways so no loss but the constant torque clamps are nice. Napa sells them under the breeze able. avail in stainless as well.

A quick 80 section search should do but believe its 5/8'' heater hose.
Ive got extra you could have but likely a bit further than the store.

the lazy me will just tag @stevezero for confirmation :D

Thank you! I might be headed up to Madison later in the week but I will pick up one, you might just need it again yourself. I will search and see what I can find. Just wanted to make sure I got the ID/OD correct. Thanks for the info on the silicone as I didn't know there were issues with it. I just assumed the silicone would be better than the Gates for long term.

from a random quick search but I would confirm...

"Pretty sure you want 5/8" NAPA Gold Stripe (made by Gates): Part # H130 and Constant torque hose clamps, part # 705-1500"

check the condition of your heater valve while in there (or first to have on hand the day of) and don't break the knock sensor!!! unplug it first to get the wire out of the way. Extra step of removing wheel and starter helps but not necessary.

You're awesome! Just picked those part numbers up. Thank you! I got 2 foot of hose and may just do the by pass since everyone seems to say it works great.

I will pick it up in the morning. I just ordered 2 clamps, any reason I need more?

Get some additional hose and do all of the small pieces that make up the system. There are two smaller sized pieces (i think 1/2 inch ID) works for the rear heater core connections at the firewall.

From my New Aquisition thread..

PHH Bypass complete. PO actually had the PHH done previously, which surprised me.
Almost all small hoses along the firewall. Napa Yellow Stripe. (Used up most of the 6ft I purchased). They have 294 ft left of it (they had to special order a 300 ft roll to the Battleground Ave store by Pisgah Church, 2.70 a ft :) ). Couldnt get to the two in the very back tucked way under the heater control valve. Had to substitute/modify a Carquest/Advance Auto parts B87310 hose to go from the T fitting down to the firewall. Its slightly smaller than the 5/8 hose.

I think i ordered 10 or 12 of the breeze clamps. If you use napa online to place the order for instore pickup, you can get 10% off your order.

I already ordered it. I can get more though. Thanks!

For future reference, Gates Green Strip or Napa Yellow Strip (same stuff) heater hose in 5/8" diameter. A 3" piece replaces the PHH but while you are at it buy more. I purchased a 3 foot piece just because they only charged me $7 for it. Breeze constant torque clamps are also recommended and can be found on ebay. They are not cheap but worth it.

Thanks again for all the help. I purchased 6' of Napa gold hose and 6 clamps for extra.

Finally did this job today and what a suck fest. Glad I went with the bypass method. Having short arms really sucks for this job. Anyway, is there any issues with having a longer route with the 5/8 bypass hose? I wanted to keep it away from the e gone heat but I don't want to make it too

Meant to say keep it away from the engine heat but didn't know if that was too long of a route

It's about 3' long currently. Trying to figure out how in the heck to tighten the torque clamp on the block nipple.

Finally got it done. Always worth 1 time I guess but never a 2nd time for sure.

I used a couple of rubber lined c clamps to secure my hose to the firewall on the bypass. I used a small 3 inch piece sliced length wise to provide some protection at the firewall where there is a potential chafe point.

No issues other than a little more coolant required in the system.
