Would you go with a ECU or mechanical Diesel engine for your gas to diesel swap?

This depends on engine availability and price, and how good you are with electrical systems. What you can handle financially and with your skills is a better determinate of what engine to go with.

A friend of mine says GO for mechanical unless you want to save a few amount of fuel and not everybody would fix an ECU engine having trouble to find a 2L-T engine

Mechanical, so much easier to tune.
