Anyone have any experience with radiator shops here in Tucson boiling out and coating tanks?

I am getting ready to install my aux. tank into my 40 and would like to have it boiled out and then coated.

I called a couple shops here in the East side of town, and all they wanted to do was order me a new tank. I tried to explain that it was an aux tank, but they wouldn't listen.

There is a fuel injection and Carb shop on south 12th (east sied of the street a few block ssouth of 22nd) that does great work at a very good price. They Dropped my tank, cleaned and coated it, and replaced my fuel pump for arround $400. I was quite pleased with the work, price, and professionalism of the shop. Now If I could just remember what they were called.....

You can also check w/ radiator shops too. Some of them do gas tank work here in Phoenix.

hey scott, I am the guy that sold you that tank. I cleaned and prepped my tank on my own cruiser. I went ahead and cut a significant sized square hole in the top of the tank so I could have good access to all areas by just reaching in. I then would take about a gallon of paint stripper and apply it to all areas of the tank. This will clean up all the varnish from the old gas. Then I would take naval jelly or Phospho from Ace hardware and use that to clean and dissolve any rust. Once it is all clean make sure you vacuum up any flakes left over or stuck in the corners. Then just weld up the patch panel back on the tank besure to check for leaks either with compressed air or water. Finally I am also running a heavy magnet right at the outlet of the tank to trap and hold any possible rust particlesbefore they get into the line. This has worked great for me and cost only about 20.00. and with the big inspection hole you are assured of getting everything cleaned up. Good luck.

Hey, good to hear from you. I might end up going the same route as you, but in any case, I really think I want to coat it after it is cleaned out.
