The good news, just returned from an awesome back country trip into Big Bend National Park (pics coming soon). The bad news, while using the jerry can to add fuel, I must have jarred loose the metal flap that sits within the neck of the filler neck.:censor: I called the parts guy at the dealership who said it should not pose a problem as gas is drawn through a screen in tank. However, the piece may rust over time. He's going to ask around for solutions/possible issues and get back to me.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Should I be concerned? Can it be retrieved short of a tank removal?:bang:

Thanks.

Do you have access to one of these?

It's a colonoscopy camera with a tweezers on the end :D

:hhmm:No, but when I go on my next "getting older" check up, I may ask the doc if I can borrow it for a minute. My buddy and I jokingly spoke of just such a thing on the way home!

In the 80s and I believe the 100s, you can pull the back seats and carpet up and there is an access plate for the fuel pump. You could check your 200 for the same thing. It should be easier to get in that way than by dropping the tank.

Did just the flap break off? or was it the flap and the restrictor? I would push them to fix it or find a dealer that will. In CA the fill pipe restrictor needs to be in place to pass the CA Smog Test so this could cause you problems on a future emissions test if TX ever adds this requirement or you try to sell the car out of state.

I believe it fell in cause there aint nothing there anymore. We must have hit it just perfectly.

Dealer parts counter said it should be covered under warranty and to inform the shop next time I'm in for service, which is 2k miles away. Since we've come back, I've only put 10 miles on the truck so it may be a while. As for emissions, Victoria does not require testing just yet.
