CEL code P1120 was thrown a two weeks ago on our way home from the Sierra's. I decided to play it safe and order new TPS and APPS sensors based on reviewing the thread in the FAQ's

I had my mechanic install these two parts today and immediately noticed a 2 mpg increase in gas mileage, according to scan gauge on the drive home from the shop. I used to barely get 14 mpg. Now I am getting 16.5 or better!

I will do some more driving to make sure it is realistic, but this is a significant change.

Has anyone else noticed this when replacing these parts?

~ $420 in parts from CDan..

You've got my attention. What's an APPS sensor? TPS sensor should be a pretty quick DIY, no?

Accelerator pedal position sensor. You probably could DIY, but anything dealing with the accelerator is worth having a professional take care of for piece of mind..

keep us posted!!!! $420 could be made up in fuel economy in a few months for most of us I'm guessing, if it's truly 2.5 mpg

Looks like it must have been a fluke. It's back to 14 to 15 max.. :-(

watch it for a few days and report back...I figured as much or we would have heard about it by now.

or take them in and out everytime you drive to improve mileage:idea::doh:

is the TPS and APPS on the same pedal assembly?
yes I see this is an old thread

thanks

Depends on year. Not sure when they changed, but my 2000 has the APPS at the TB, my 2004 has it at the pedal. Both have TPS at the TB.

Through 2000 (at least) there is still a conventional cable that can operate the throttle butterfly if the APPS/TPS fails.

I have wondered about this part since it's so much "flying by wire" like an Airbus. Does the 2004 have this?

All 100's are TBW. The earlier years just have a very short 'wire' actuated by a cable and the later ones have a long 'wire' and no cable.
