I have the resources to stamp out steel emergency repair front hub covers that would install in place of the front drive flanges for emergency trail repair for blown front diffs.
Simply remove the drive flanges and drive shaft and bolt the covers on and you would be good to go. They would be dust and water proof so you would not have to worry about the bearings getting contaminated on the drive home.
Not sure on the pricing yet, It depends on interest/volume.

What do you think?

That's the idea.
I'm pretty sure I can get them made very reasonably if there is enough interest. The main thing is covering the cost for the press tools.

So as I've not blown my diff yet and haven't experienced this, what is normally done without these hub covers of which you speak? Sorry for the noob question...

Duct tape + beer can.

I've blown my front diff and driven around in rain and through Death Valley with the shafts covered with some plastic and the wheel covers. Talking to my Mechanic who installed an ARB locked diff and regeared, he said it's really not that bad to have the shaft exposed uncovered.

I'm sure it can't hurt, but it sounds like it's overblown a little on the web.

They would be much lighter, way cheaper, and take up less space in your tool box than bored out drive flanges as you could nest them together.
And maybe it's just me but I'm pretty anal about keeping dirt and water out of my wheel bearings. For me, It would be enough of a project to pull out the CV's and diff for a diff repair. I'd rather not have to pull both hubs and repack the wheel bearings too.
Plus, where I go offroad is usually 500 miles from home. I'd rather feel confident driving home on good, secure wheel bearings, knowing I'm going to make it home, rather than limping all the way wondering if I'm going to seize a bearing and blow out a spindle somewhere on the beltway.
I know, worst case scenario.......
I just like to be prepared with the best solutions for the worst possible problems.
Again, anal.........
JMO.

I just blew my front diff on Sunday. I would have loved to have sealed covers since I will be driving the truck in 2wd mode until we save up the $$ to get an ARB installed

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD while navigating gnarly trail. Typos are inherent.
