hey!
i've checked the forum diligently, but haven't found an answer... sorry if it's there.
We got our '97 month ago from GA, where it's been all it's life--- VGC overall, but underside has a sandy, gritty GA clay mess pretty much glued all over it. Any thoughts as the best way to clean it off--- it will just collect water every time it rains and hold it against the metal if not cleaned off...

tried a little brushing and it doesn't appear to want to easier come off. little concerned with power washing as this might force water up into things that aren't meant to be wet? thoughts?

thanks.

Red clay has a cement like hold when dry but rinses away easily when wet, a trick I learned here works well on it, put a sprinkler under the truck and let it run for a wile, move it around from time to time to get good coverage.

I don’t bother to clean the clay off very often as it will just get back on again, clay has a lot of moisture holding ability has not been a problem here yet but I would imagine it would absorb and hold salt also witch would be very bad.

And shame on you for bringing a rare pristine rust free GA 80 to the evil salt infested north. :flipoff2: Your only redemption would be to garage it in the winter like Eric does.

But seriously when I was looking for 80’s most of the ones for sale here were from up north and showed the beginnings or rust problems, one of my criteria was finding one that had been in the south its whole life.

that's right !! i got both my 92 ls400 and the LC from the south (not near ocean, either) and off ebay. if i'm going to buy 8-10 yr old cars, i want them rust-free to come and start their inevitable slow death with me in OH...

Yeah I have personal experience with clay and it is tough as all get out to wash off. I went under the truck with a pressure washer for a hour and still didn't get all of it off. But try the sprinkler cause if you leave it running for awhile it should loosen a lot of it up. But let me tell you I feel your pain. I experience once a month when I go wheelin in GA.
