Going to have some work done on my windshield frame and was looking to see what a new one cost just see what’s the smartest route to go. My vehicle is. 1995 FZJ73 with a FRP Hardtop out of Colombia.

I found 2 part numbers that match my VIN number but not really sure which one is correct.

56301-90K18
56301-90K21

any idea which one is correct for a hardtop like mine.

thanks !!!

21 is cheaper by $200 and has "W(STAT)" after the part number. I have no idea what that means

Taking a look at various model in the EDC I found :
KZJ70L (soft-top) : 90K18
HZJ75LP (pickup) : 90K19
BJ73LV, HZJ73LV, KZJ73LV LX (hardtop) : 90K20
KZJ73LV VX (hardtop) : 90150

So at least seems that 90K18 is for soft-top version.

Yeah… all these part numbers can get confusing. Then add the FRP in there and it gets even more scrambled

I some how think these left the factory with a soft top and once arrived in Colombia they were fitted with a hard to as these tops are made there. So maybe the FRP top attaches like a soft top channel does . Confusing to be sure !!!!

Hello,

Colombia spec 73 Series were assembled by SOFASA from soft top CKDs, from 1995 to 2004.

Japanese 73 Series stopped coming to South America in late 1995.

A local company called Fivres made a reproduction FRP top. Round upper corners and a FIVRES label in the rear give it away. Late production units had the same top, made by a company called Cabinor.

Yes, the reproduction top attaches like a soft top does.

When looking for the part number, make sure the description includes either Soft Top or FZJ73L. No LV in this case.

Thanks Juan!!!!

So I’m pretty safe to say mine was built by SOFASA and arrived as a soft top with the local FRP top added in country. So I need to order the 56301-90K18 as it , from what I read , corresponds to a FZJ73L and soft top model…… I hope 😁

Those being ?

I have some rust bubbles popping up and the passenger side drip rail is fully compromised with rust….. hidden under the paint. There is also rust showing underneath that I can’t fully see. The cost of repair could come close to just replacing it as I’ve found it shipping to me for around $550

My body guy made mention that replacing it with a new one and treating it properly from the start will ensure it could probably be rust free for the rest of its life.

There are fiberglass windshield frame options too. I almost got one but they don't work with soft top 73/74 (no channel), just the FRP models.

Mine came to Colombia as a soft top version and I know my FRP top was made in Colombia and was told they are made to work with soft top windshield frames. That being said it seems my only options are fix mine or replace it with an OEM frame. I guess if I’m going this far I’d rather replace it so I can hopefully never worry about it again.

Oh ok. My bad. I should have read the whole thread before posting my comments. I would definitely replace.

There has been a lot of posts here about the common rust issue with the windshield frames and it is my understanding this gets blamed on condensation build up inside the frame....meaning they rust from the inside out.....and it happens more often on the A/C equipped models. I have seen posts that some people spray inside with a product like Fluid Film inside to stop it.

I'm wondering the difference of connection with the Land Cruiser FRP vs. the Columbian FRP made tops at the windscreen?
It seems like it would be a factory soft top windshield frame but who actually knows for sure until you pop that FRP up and see.

@ASO544
Again just asking questions, but I would have thought a factory soft top would have had the hood bumpers that hold the windshield screen, but all of the Columbian FRP ones I have seen don't have that. Neither do they have 1/2 doors, although I don't think thats any indication as well. Your VIN is for sure a soft top model, but I really wonder if when Toyota sent them to Columbia, were they spec'd with a standard FRP frame because they knew they were putting a Columbia top on them from FIVRES?
They look extremely close, almost identical to the same Toyota FRP tops so that alone would make me question if it's really a soft top windshield frame.

Differences I see
rear upper door latch is the soft top style, not the FRP with the latching mechanism like the Toyota FRP.
Windows are different attachment and single sliders with rubber gaskets, not the "RV" style the FRP uses
Gaskets on the B-pillar aren't on any FRP tops from Toyota.
No headliner, although that could have been removed.
It doesn't appear the top bolts through the main roll bar, no access holes on the trim (unless you take it all down) and the top fits differently around that hoop.

I would definitely just pop the front of that top up a little to get a look at the frame to make sure you order the right one. Just a few bolts and not much time.

So you think I could remove some bolts on the top front mounting area, lift the top up just enough to fold the window down some to see the channel ?

Here are the bolts from the manual you need to remove to do the top. I don’t believe you have that second row of bolts

I would just pull the front and FRP badge ones, and I would loosen all the others. That should
Give you enough to lift the front up. Obviously take care not to force it up higher than the bolts will allow.
