I have a 1996 FZJ70, the front wiper started to go slow about six months ago, I replace the motor but still the same problem, they work fine (Int, low, high, and stop in the correct position) but they seem without force.

What should I look at first?

Where does the wiper harness get its ground for?

Is there a wiper relay besides from the one that control the "INT" function (lower panel passenger side)?

Thanks.

l have encounter the same problem on a few 70 series, take the wiper arms off, there is a rubber cover behind the wiper, take that off and spray some lubricant at the shafts, the shaft go thru a outer sleeve and it can get pretty dry between the outer sleeve and the shaft.
you can tell if this is the problem by turning on the wiper and help pushing the wipers with your hand, the wipers will speedup.
if they are rusty or corrored, you have to take them apart.

Many thanks Simon, tomorrow I will do that, when I replace the wiper motor I tried to remove the whole linkage of the wipers but no luck I didn't figured out.

I found the wiring diagrams for my LC and I cleaned one of the grounds (there are two for the front wipers, one on each side kick panel) the speed got better but still not OK, tomorrow I will find the other ground and check for voltage readings at the fuse box, battery, and the cable of the wiper that have constant 12V (when ignition switch is on the last position) that way I can rule out if the problem is for lack of adequate voltage.

Thanks.

And you also have to post some pics of your rig:D

I cleaned both ground and remove, clean and lubricate all the bars of the front wipers, now they have a very decent speed.
And here are some pictures of my rig

In Venezuela they are very usual, the 70 series was 1FZ-F until the 99 and then 1FZ-FE (only one coil) until 2001, after that year 1FZ-FE (3 coils) and now the 1GR-FE V6.

About the mileage, well...it varies a lot, depending of how you drive and if the carburetor is properly adjusted, right now its about 5.5 kms per liter (90ltsx5.5=495 kms) but is not properly tuned and the thermal insulator between the carb and the admission port haves a small crack (changing it soon) so gets more air than the usual.

Very tidy shorty 70. No diesel motor available????;)

No, only gasoline engines and only one motor available in the same period (very cheap gasoline, little options for consumers)

Short timeline for Venezuelan 70 series (available in short version, long van, pick up and chassis)

1986 - 1991 (carb 3F)
1992 - 1999 (1FZ-F)
2000 - 2001 (1FZ-FE)
2002- 2008 (1FZ-FE 3 coils version)
2008- 2009 (1FZ-FE 3 coils version, only pick up and chassis version)
2009- actual (no Land Cruisers is officially for sale by Toyota de Venezuela, only some government imports, 4-doors, long vans, and pick ups)

Factory equipped with DANA 60 rear transmission. What is this??? Original factory??? Is there a wording ARB on the Red covering of the axle??

My LC came out of the Toyota production line with DANA 60.

60 and 70 Series made in Venezuela where equipped with DANA 60 rear differential.

I found a semi-permanent fix for the slow wipers, the problem is the 12V line that comes from the ignition switch to the fuse box, I used a relay to temporally get the wiper 12V directly from the battery, so now the fuse for the wiper goes to the coil in the relay, I now have like new wipers, the permanent fix will be to change the factory wire.
