Planning for my inevitable rebuild, probably in the next 6 months. my 95 has 277K on the clock, never been cracked past the intake plenum. I'm looking for either club members qualified to rebuild or a shop within probably 35 miles of Flower Mound to start the conversation now so that when I'm ready (or if something blows) I'm not desperate and scrambling and do something foolish like end up at the dealer.

Don't know if Butch does this, don't know if he's too far to travel.

What do you think, any advise?

Don't remember his username but his real name is Mike Frisbee & he owns Frisbee Automotive. He goes to yall's meetings up in Dallas usually.
Frisbee Auto Repair Service in Waxahachie, Texas
They specialize in Lexus/Toyota & own a few Land Cruisers. It's who I'd use but he is down here in Hachie.

Hi Josh

Maybe a different path but have you considered buying a 1FZ that is done.Mud member Delancey has a uber build 1FZ that was build by Robby and unfortunately he rolled his 80 before he had a chance to install it.It might cost a bit more then doing a stock rebuild with aftermarket parts but you would get a beast of a 1FZ.

I know mike, but have to miss the meeting / Auction tomorrow as my wife will be out of town and I'll be looking after the kids.

The buying the rebuilt option would be a good one, but I's still need to have a trusted shop install it and test / tune / chase down any problems that arise. This is my DD and I would not have time to sit on it for a few weeks trying to figure it out myself.

Delancy's rebuild 1FZ is not just a rebuild,it has been rebuild by guru Robby and is far from stock contact him if you want some of the details.

Mud member Delancey

Thanks, Joe.....but it's Delancy. :)

I do have an uber FZ that Robbie built, still on a stand in Robbie's shop....

Nothing was left untouched and built to the nth degree.....at the expense of several organs.

Also have an H150F to go with it...but another story.

Unsolicited advice is, if you're not pulling the FZ, tearing it down, ferrying to machine shops and reassembling yourself, consider buying a new short block, and working from there.

Save a lot of time, proven solution with less left to chance, for a marginally more than the OE parts and machine shop fees.

Sorry Mr Delancy ;)

I wish it was the first time I misspelled your last name LoL

Josh for what it is worth I can vouch for Chris as being a standup guy and always had good dealings with him.

Joe

Out of curiosity, what do you want for it?

Sorry Mr Delancy

You should be, because it's the first time it's ever happened!! Ha.

Spent my whole life correcting the second "e" and still have maternal family that misspell, so it's obligatory to correct.

iphone continually autocorrects, incorrectly, too. Haha.

Out of curiosity, what do you want for it?

I messaged what I spent and hope you're sitting down when opening.

Before feinting, you'll be 75% of the total, doing anywhere close to right, before paying to have installed.....and why I'm a proponent of new short block ($3,300) and new head ($1.3k)....unless 4.6L HP is the goal.

Got your message, and if I was convincing my wife that that was the option over buying a new truck, I would probably jump on it. As of now, I'm (trying) to keep a rebuild under 5K. The shortblock may be the way to go. Still need a mechanic who can do the work.

Unless it's sold, Scotia has a block that's been machined that he has for his 80. Not sure it's ever going in so he may be willing to part with it. He's in Houston.

If you don't have time for the vehicle to not be running, buying a donor motor will be your best bet. That way, it sitting and ready to go when you decide to pull your current.

I know another guy in Houston that probably has a few motors to choose from as well with varying mileage and condition, if you want a contact name and # i should be able to track it down for you.

Not sure of your situation with space, but another option is find a cheap donor rig to steal the motor and part out. I bought a 91 80 for my 3FE parts for $1000 in fort worth and sold it for $1000 a week later without a motor or wiring.

Just talked with Mike Frisbee, thinking Donor motor is the way to go, love to find one with under 160k. We'll see how that goes...

Ahem.....

Delancy has one of those too, that hasn't a purpose, at this time, and longer it sits the more opportunity exists to GIVE it a purpose.....and I've enough projects for the next 80-90 years.

Bought with ~100k, now ~125k. (All documented in PP80 thread)

Robbie went through it at ~110k, but wouldn't bore because the cylinders were pristine, so complete top end rebuild and complete reseal was extent of the scope of work.....but the "Robbie" part, along with new OE parts, except his choosing on HG and studs, means $$$$$$.

Haven't actively marketed, because it's still in the PP80 and I don't care to defend a reasonable asking price to all that can buy mint condition trucks with 100k for $1k, nor quote shipping 8,000 times, but I would entertain ideas of selling, although it'll consume a big chunk of your budget, still yet.

(Peripherals included, of course, which can eat a rebuild budget up quick. PS pumps ain't cheap, nor are starters, injector services, or the other umpteen expenses that lie in total darkness at the full depth of the rabbit hole.....

Why when I expressed invested in just the freshly rebuilt long block, it's with hesitation, but THAT'S a realistic cost of a properly rebuilt 1FZ.)

Delancy, Thanks for the info on that engine, not gonna jump yet but not gonna forget either. I followed that short block you were selling a while back, but did not have my mindset figured out at that time.

Looking like I'm starting to get serious about getting a motor.
BDSeff1fitty - would love a reference in houston for possible donor motors.
Delancy - PM sent on the donor you mentioned.

Sent you PM. Wanting to know what would allow you to possibly part with this.
