I feel like all I've posted so far are STOOPID questions, but here is another one.

Where are the fuses on my 1986 bj74? I don't have an access in either kick panel, I see nothing under the hood, I've removed the tub from my glove box, I've taken off the air venting that runs along the bottom of the console. NOTHING....

where else can I even look? DO I have to remove the whole dash? That seems crazy but where else is there?

Hello,

There should be a small panel next to the driver's door, below the dash.

This is for a LHD truck. RHD is the mirror image.

Ah thank you everyone. Found it!
But none of the fuses appear to be blown. The wiring I was using to hook up my running lights touched the frame and sparked at which point that circuit shorted (its on the same wire as my 12V radio which runs through a 24 converter....the radio is dead now too), but would these be on a different fuse somewhere else? Or did the spark cause a relay to go bad?

I was under the impression that relays just connected different circuits to common fuses but I would have expected a blown fuse in there, which I did not find.

Since it is aftermarket wiring my guess would be that there are inline fuses somewhere. Relays allow heavy loads to be switched on and off using light switches, and aren't generally used to connect different loads to a common source. Each circuit "should" have its own fuse, but who knows what might be going on with aftermarket wiring.

I got everything apart under the steering column, don't see any inline fuses. Could it be a blown fuse in my Radio's 24v to 12v converter that killed the circuit?

I have a pioneer rd-240 converter...know very little about these

My Pyle 24-12v converter does have its own fuse right on its housing.
As for inline fuses I have most often seen them connected very near the device they are protecting.
Have you examined the wiring right at your converter and or radio?

Are you getting power for these things from a fuse tap in the fuse box or from the battery? Somewhere else maybe?

There is an aftermarket wire (yellow) coming off the battery that supplies power to the converter....(directly as far as I can tell). I tapped into that yellow wire to power my running lights (which is when things went haywire).

there does not appear to be an inline fuse but I will check again tomorrow.
thanks again for your continued help!

Manual Reset Circuit Breakers - without Bracket

I bought a 24V inline circuit breaker for the power to my converter.
It was intended for a 24V boat trolling motor.

I like those lights you picked. They will use only, ummmmmm 4 or 5 amps total.
I have fog lights with old school bulbs BUT they throw a wide beam. Perfect for spotting deer preparng to run out into the road.

Some states have laws to prevent blinding oncoming cars: big fog lights can't be on together with headlights.
Mine were once wired to prevent that.
One way around this rule is simply covers for the extra lights.

"They will use only, ummmmmm 4 or 5 amps total."

I don't mean to be at all dense, but is this sarcasm? 4 or 5 amps seems not a lot.
I'm not missing something am i?

Not sarcasm. Math in my head.
The link you posted for the LEDs said lights use 51 Watts. Times 2 = 102 Watts.
Volts times amps = Watts. 24 Volts times amps = 102 Watts. Amps must be 4.25, right?

LEDs use very little power. Sometimes this is a pain because a control device like turn signal blinker thing doesnt even know the LEDs are there.

Ah got it.
Huh, your last comment must mean that I can't just wire this up to my OEM fog light switch?

I would wire them up through that switch.
You dont need a relay with that low amp current. If a relay is already there, thats okay too.
No one has ever said or asked anything about my fog light wiring.
I learned about that legal stuff while trying to understand why mine only came on under certain conditions (main headlights off)
Do you have annual auto inspections? You could find info on what is legal perhaps.

I would wire it and blame things on the previous owner if questioned.

I do have annual inspections. I don't think they get into the electrical...
I'll give it a go.
cheers
