I have researched previous threads and haven't found anything helpful, so I need some advice...

Recently found out the external resistor for the coil was missing the "hot crank" bypass wire. In finding that out, I had the battery tested; replaced the pos battery cable; also removed/inspected/ cleaned/reattached all connections to starter, coil, alternator and battery. It started and ran like a champ until 2 days ago.

It refused to start, heard the solenoid click only. I ensured wires were getting power and they were so I had the starter checked thinking this was the problem-it passed their test. I reattached the starter and still no start, then I jumped it, nothing.

Removed and cleaned all fuses and fuseblock connection.
It started right up! But now does not turn over, still only clicks.

I have since rechecked all fuses. Checked and blew out the ignition connection.

Any suggestions?

Maybe the PO had that wire disconnected for a reason and now that you fixed it something shorted. Maybe the coil has gone.

I checked the coil under this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/196883-testing-ignition-coil.html

And I got spark!
I had a 75 Maverick that went through about 6 starters my senior year of high school, and when the FJ first refused to start-I immediately thought that was the problem. But it passed.

But I had run down everything. So I took the starter out(again) and had them check it (again.) Though it "passed" (again) according to the computer, it sounded horrible. The mechanic agreed.

It starts and runs now!!
