This could be asked in several of the forums but since it's from a 70 series I'll ask here.

I'm rebuilding my rear axle with new seal, bearings, etc. May have been there before but I think I did this damage :bang:by way of a bit of carelessness in removing the seal and race. Either way do y'all think it's too much to reuse or can I get away with it? Should I lightly file down the burr so it's smooth.

Thanks!

Just what I wanted to hear. It's tough to tell from the pic but the damage is on the surface where the seal sits. The race is smaller diameter so won't fix it when I hammer it in. I'll be emailing you later today about maintenance and parts order

Thanks!

yep as above that will be ok mate just give the burr a clean up and the seal will seat fine, if you don't have access to a press and are hammering the bearings in cut a slot in the old outer race's and use them as a spacer/drift to hammer the new race's in it makes it easier and prevents any damage to the new races, the seals can be pretty tight and are easily damaged when hammering them in, I sit the seal nice and square and put a piece of 4x2 (or maybe 2x4 at the other side of the world) and give the piece of timber a good hard smack with a heavy hammer to seat the seal squarely and properly, there's heaps of good tutorial stuff and tips on youtube :)

Thanks for the tips. I'd heard of cutting and using the old race but it's always nice to hear affirmation.

My bearings and races were in really good shape and I could've gotten by with just new seals but I'm in there so I'm replacing it all
