I looked under the truck as part of annual touck up as much as possible with POR-15 routine and follow up with FluidFilm and realized that there is quite a bit of deterioration of the protection assembly (77606-60120) for the fuel tank. The part itself is not too expensive. Should I replace it? Or it does not really matter as I do not take the truck off road and most of the cover is in place.

Odessit,
Thanks for posting this question. I'm interested in this too as mine is very rusty as well. I searched here and in the factory manual and from what I saw, and I hope I'm wrong, it appears that you can't really remove just the cover by itself. It looks like the cover holds up the fuel tank and they come down together. The manual really does not tell you squat about the cover anyway. Have you found any information otherwise? I don't want the hassle of removeing the fuel tank just to fix the rusty cover.
I have only found one person here who has removed the fuel tank on their 100 and I PM'ed him with this question but he never replied. Hopefully your thread will muster up some info.

I would at least have a something underneath there. It's a large truck, it can kick stuff up, that one random piece of debris that you hit in 6 months at night that kicks up, punctures the tank, and leaves you stranded will suck. Cut the rusted portion out, drill some holes near the cut and bolt a cheap piece of steel from Home Depot to it to cover the removed rust patch. If you have a grinder and welder than weld a new piece in.

Are there any aftermarket options for a stronger skid plate? I have searched and have not had any luck finding anything. Mine is all bent to hell. The tank is not really in danger of being punctured but stranger things have happened.

Mine has a pretty good sized dent in it as well, i am pretty sure my tank is slightly dented as well.

Not that I've noticed. I can appreciate some good tank armor after the damage my old 4Runner's tank took without it. Considering how I wheel my LC, I probably don't need one but if one became available I'd probably consider it.

Slee! Are you reading this?!? If you build it they will come. Regardless of need. I have your other 3 skids, might as well add a 4th.
