I am wondering if anyone else has had a vaporlock problem..(2007 LX470 100k) Today I left my house in Denver and drove up to a trail at about 10k feet the temp was about 80.I pulled over off the trail to let the dogs run around and jumped back in and it would not start. My first thought was vaporlock obviously, I opened the gas cap to let pressure off and could hear bubbling in the tank. Then I disconnected the fuel filter to let pressure off -sprayed like crazy- reconnected- Still no go. Last summer I had a similar experience with the gas bubbling out of the filler at a gas station but it ran ok..Any indication of what is going on? Evap canister? Fuel filter? Any help is much appreciated!

This is very common. General consensus is that it's partially poor design and partially an aged evap system. It's been mentioned that having half a tank or less when hot (warm) days and going up in altitude a few thousand feet fairly rapidly.

Opening the pressurized system is a bad thing to do. By lowering the pressure you lower the boiling point. This causes more vapor pressure to build.

The most common solution is enjoy a 20-30 minute break while the system cools back down.

Thanks,
I did a search and didn't find anything definitive except that is a common problem chalked up to poor design. I ordered a new fuel filter and when I refill the tank I wont buy cheap fuel (costco) and see if that works this next weekend. If that doesn't do the trick then I'll put in a fuel pump. After that I'm not sure....

Costco's fuel is actually pretty good fuel on premium level.
I agree (I thnk). see below

So an update on my situation:
I purchased a new fuel filter and installed it. I emptied out the old one and was surprised the amount of muddy looking fuel that came out of it. Both sides even. On my last trip up to the hills, I filled up the tank full of premium (costco again-Im cheap). This time over a higher pass at 12k feet I had no problems this time.
I still plan on purchasing a new fuel cap hopefully not a fuel pump. If I have issues or something new Ill find this post and update it.

Costco is a Top Tier fuel, which means the best cleanest fuel you can buy. Price has nothing to do with it.
I also use Costco fuel, almost exclusively. Never had a problem.
The only time I do not use Costco is when I'm out of town and in my small equipment, in those I use E-free fuel.

Top Tier Gas

And you have to remember, you have no idea what fuel the previous owner used, so unless you changed the fuel filter after you bought it you cannot blame anything you've done to the condition of the old fuel filter.
