Vehicle (1978 fj40) was having trouble keeping an idle. I notice some gas leak at the end of the fuel pump (I'm assuming its a mechanical fuel pump?) on one of the connections. (The hose closest to the motor)

I drained the gas tank, then replaced the fuel lines with new ones and also replaced the fuel filter which the PO added.

I reused the clamp fittings to secure the hose. once everything was back on. She fired right up with a little sputter and idle'd like she did before. However I still observed some fuel leaking by the hose closest to the motor.

I checked on SOR's website and their fuel pump does not look mine. Was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is an aftermarket or stock??

I want to be sure before I purchase a new one or if mine is even rebuildable.

That's an older design. You can find the newer ones at RockAuto.com or your local parts houses (Napa, AZ, Oreilly).

Thanks for the info. I found out mine was an Airtex fuel pump. The pump fitting is loose on one of them and there are no threads on it. Will pick up a new one. Thanks again

Try to get a Kyosan one. The Airtex is cheap Chinese stuff.
While I agree with the opinion, the Airtex mechanical pumps were built in Illinois (they don't make them anymore). The newer electric ones are made in Mexico ...

FWIW - if you order a Napa mechanical pump it will be a stock Kyosan in a blue box for cheaper than Mr T ;-)

don't get the top pump like the david posted. that pump is for the later model cruiser (2 lines in and 1 line out) (think it was '77-'87). they have a return line going back to the tank. get the pump that looks like the bottom pic he posted. 1 line in from tank 1 line out to carb (1 in and 1 out). you can still get it from toyota.

You can use the pump in the top pic but be sure to install the spacer between the pump & block.. with out it will result in a small disaster...

Thanks for the info on fuel pump. You guys and this site are always helpful. Can't wait to do some serious restoration on her.. List of things.

But for now just enjoying her. This was taken after the rain we got last week.
