Does anyone know which Stewart Warner fuel gauge and sending unit will work in my '83 fj40?
I don't really trust the OEM system anymore.

My autometer gauge set came with a sender to match. Maybe stewart warner does the same.

But, I think the first question is what fuel sender will fit in your tank? That might define your choices.

According to Stewart Warner tech support I need a sender with 230-33 ohms and according to my FSM the throw on the sender arm is 8.5" at empty. SW has several senders in this range.

The base plate should be the S.A.E. standard 5 hole plate.

I to have an untrustworthy fuel gauge. It's 86bj70. 24v. Won't read full unless I jump the whole pump with a by pass wire. I cleaned the resistance coil and contact as my ohm meter showed no circuit as contact passed about 3/4 of movement up the coil. After dressing coil Ohm mtr shows consistent gain from top to bottom but no improvement in performance of gauge. Got a customer service #to share? I'm done trying to fix this one.

When you change gauges/senders the ohms values must match, i.e. 240/33 gauge and 240/33 sender. When you modify the non-Toyota sender to fit your Toyota tank, there are very high odds you will throw sender accuracy out the window- - -for that reason I would recommend you get a 240/33 Centroid electronic sending unit for your non-Toyota 240/33 dash gauge.
