I am trying to game plan installing a fuel filler grommet to seal out the rear quarter panel from water and road debris. At some point, my 60 lost it's original. Here is a link to the part: fj60 filler neck grommet

I've reviewed the FSM and can't quite visualize what I need to remove to install this rubber bugger. Anyone recently do this and have some good memories to pass along? Thanks in advance.

All you need to remove is the two hose clamps that hold the rubber soft line between the gas tank and the fill tube

Step 1. Remove rear access panel that covers the fuel filler hose between fill tube and gas tank. (x4 bolts).

Step 2. Remove x2 clamps that hold rubber fuel filler hose to fill tube and gas tank. Remove hose.

Step 3. Clean area and body panel where grommet hole exists. :)

Step 4. Slide grommet over fill tube against body and seat the lip.

Step 5. Reinstall hose, clamps, and access panel. Fill tank up to verify you tightened clamps enough.

I waited to be near empty just in case removing the hose would cause gas spillage.

Also, do a precheck and see how your hose looks, might as well replace hose and clamps while you’re there. I opted for everything OEM since it’s available.

Matt,

Do you have a part number on the filler tube? Mine is hard as a rock and need to do the same job. I have the grommet but never thought the filler hose would still be out there.
