I have been lurking on this site for a while now. However, it is time for me to finally make a post. Unfortunately, it is to sell my 1982 FJ-40.
Purchased it about a year ago in hopes of having the time and money to work on it. Neither have happened and don’t have a prospect to in the near future. Thought I would let it go to someone who will take care of it. . I have used it sparingly since I bought it and probably have put less than 5000 miles on it. It drives well enough to get me to the ski resorts here in Colorado and have taken it as far as Crested Butte without any issues.
Based on conversations I have had with the previous owner, it has approximately 135k miles on it. The odometer was not working for a while. I got it fixed last summer and currently reads 92700. The original 2F engine is in it and it has the 4 speed manual transmission. Along with fixing the odometer last summer, I had the main seal replaced and had a new clutch put in. Also the radiator was re-cored last year. I have the receipts for that work.
The body is in good shape but could use some work. The hard top doesn’t have the liner on the inside but is complete. Ambulance doors are in good shape. I also have a STC soft top and a bikini top to go with it. All of those would be included of course. There are a few small holes in the tub near the back doors. Since I don’t do a lot of body work, I don’t really know how bad they are or what it would take to fix them up.
There is a 3.5” Black Diamond lift on it and 31x10.5 BFG TA tires on it. Tread is better on the back tires than the front. Both front and back heaters work well. K&N air filter, Warn super lockers on the front and the rear jump seats are other items that the vehicle has.
The only big issue that I am aware of is the fact that it occasionally won’t start when the engine is warm. Since I don’t have the tools or space to work on it, I haven’t been able to trouble shoot it. Reading the forums, it might be a coil issue. Other known problems: the full size spare probably isn’t usable and there is no radio or jack.
I would be happy to answer other questions. I might not be able to answer super technical ones since my intention was to learn as I went on fixing it up. However, if you really want to know and don’t mind telling me how to get the info for you, I would be happy to help out.
Finally the important info. I’m asking for $6000 but am willing to talk. The location is in Denver Colorado.
Not sure where a PM will go, but questions can be sent to me at my email account. The address is AVEL1 at hotmail.com.
Damn photos. Here is one, but I have more that would be much easier to email to you.
