Hello Cruiser People...

As a newbie, I mistook this area as a 55 parts listing area, and posted my truck for sale in the general classifieds. I hope I'm not breaking any rules by re-posting here. This is my story:

As I know many of you will understand, it's killing me to write this. Parting ways with my equally sweet and intolerable piggy (read: Rhino) after 12 joyous and heart-wrenching years. I can no longer afford to give her the time or money she deserves. I wish that I could leave her in a more dignified state (and for the $8k I originally purchased her for). Older restoration showing her age.
Mostly unmolested except soft-top - possible restoration or solid donor.... makes my heart heavy to say that.
Documented receipts for the last 15+ years

Here's the good:

1979 - Last year of beautiful 55 body style before the 60s rolled in
She's a late model '79 Cali. All California emissions all intact. Passed smog last November w/ no issues at all.
Daily driver for the last 6 months.
Jeep Cherokee paint - still looks pretty nice - Magesium grey-green
All glass intact and chip free.
Factory AC - not currently working, but intact
Factory PS - works great, always.
Factory Front Disc Brakes
Factory 4 speed
Solid body with some dubious repair.
American racing alloys with 4 brand, spanking new 31" BFG ATs. ($1000 w/ transferable road hazard insurance @ 4 Wheel Parts)
New Rancho Shocks all around
New Front brake pads
Gas tank removed, Boiled, Rhinoed and reinstalled
Radiator removed, re-cored, re-coated and reinstalled
New flywheel

PO removed gutter-rusted roof and installed a really nicely done full snap soft-top and arched cross braces - though the edging has gotten a bit brittle over the years.
Isuzu (?) buckets up front - driver side has air-ride, which is nice with ton and a half 7 leaf rear springs.
Interior is respectable. entire floor covered with rubber matting where carpet might be. Heavy duty floor mats over that. Floors are solid.
Nice Specter dash cover - looks like new - never lifted to see what was under.
4 speaker tape deck/radio works...except for the tape deck.
Hella fog lamps

Brand new clutch
New heat shield and riser for rebuilt carb
New clutch master and slave cylinders

Specter crate 2F with less than 20k miles - professionally installed, but now in need of love.

Parts:
2nd carb (factory)
Original skid plate
Water Pump
Misc. Other bits

In my care, all work performed by: Me, Mudrak, Yodaman, 4 Wheel Parts and Oakland Autoworks.

Here's the bad:
Was losing power - took her to Yodaman last week- Compression readings for 2 cylinders below norm. Likely head gasket.
Failed Brakes - Rear lines leaking enough to remove stopping power. drums need complete rebuild - or conversion to disc.
Rear axle seals need to be replaced when dealing with brakes.
Bubbles in body work surfacing
Window tinting losing its lustre
Rear window activation requires a willing partner. (key activation has worked in a miraculous sort of way a few times in my experience)
Front door locks can be finicky.
Main gas tank vent has a cut in it - so filling the tank full results in loss of really precious resources. i watch the gauge while filling and stop around 3/4.
Rear view mirror fell off. I have it.

I have a bunch of pictures (and one video) here:
It's an old school directory listing but I tried to label the photos so you could find things. Unfortunately, for some unknown (to me) reason, some of the images load sideways or upside down. I apologize, but I don't have the time to figure that out now.

Thanks for looking.

Bummer. I was really hoping someone here would show some love... or at least strike up a conversation. I'm open to offers. I'd hate to have to donate her, but it may come to that. Sigh. Where's Jay Leno or another philanthropic, car loving kazillionaire when I need one.

In my rookie/newbie opinion, I would bet somebody will snatch her up soon. If I wasn't on the other side of the continent (NC) and looking at $1,000+ in shipping costs I'd be adopting her. I'll definitely keep her on my radar screen...

Sounds like you have some great history with your Pig!

Hope you find her a great new home.

Thanks! It's true, we go back aways, and have had some great adventures. That's part of what's making this hard. The longer she sits in the driveway, the more I think "well, maybe you could *make* some time, and sell some plasma and keep going". Unfortunately, the rest of the household think it's important to pursue other projects... hmph... do we really need a sink in the bathroom? Or drywall?

Drywall = over rated!

No, she is not a donor Pig.

that is a fine '79 w/ AC and PS.

Be patient Grasshopper.

People don't such into a Pig purchase because it is a commitiment to the Piggy lifetsyle.

What is your location and asking price?

Thanks for talking me off the ledge... and I really do understand the commitment.

She and I are in Oakland, CA and I'm asking $3800 or Best Offer.

Less than 500 '79 pigs came into the States. You have a diamond in the rough

I couldn't help noticing the 79 parted out in your sig.
This could be a sign! She could be your diamond in the rough!

I wish I could take her off your hands
I kick myself in the ass all the time for parting that '79. That was before I knew about Mud and had alot less knowledge about pigs. I got it for a song, and I fawked up. Oh well.
I did keep alot of parts, including the P/S, which I'm currently running.

Learn from my mistake

Hi, All. I've had some CL interest, but things haven't shaped up. The first couple responses were very humorous, though pretty skeevy scam attempts.. the next few were decent guys who were knowledgeable, but nothing has come of it. I've dropped my asking price to $3500 OBO. I really just want her to find a new home where there is hope for care and continued goodness. Let me know if you have questions or interest. Thanks!

I still have it on my radar. Saw that the price dropped on CL. Wish this was closer so I could check it out in person. Most recent quote I received for standby shipping was around $1200. I checked Mudship but didn't see much going from coast to coast. If anyone knows of some other cost effect options to consider I would be interested in hearing about them...

Thank you all for your interest and conversations. Leslie the Rhino was purchased on Saturday, and towed directly to Mudrak in Sonoma, so I know she's in Gary's capable hands. It was a sad moment, but kinda cool too, because I ended up selling her back to the previous, previous owner. He's a cool guy, a true cruiser enthusiast, and the one who fabricated the trick soft-top. After almost 20 years he has her back. I told him that I'd buy her back in 10 years...

Great to hear! Good for you and Leslie.
