Man.... spent my normal Friday wrenching :

Checked and adjusted all the valves - no more knock, knock jokes - she's humming like a Singer sewing machine now..... and then,

puff, puff, puff goes the white smoke..... checked the exhaust pipe, just below the manifold :

so do I replace the pipe from the manifold or try to just weld it up?

Personally, I'd try the band-aid approach first. You really don't have much to lose. Worst thing that happens is you end up replacing what you are already prepared to replace. Best thing that happens is you stop your leak and nobody notices the repair. :meh: To be sure, this is the downpipe, correct? I can't really tell from the picture, but it doesn't look like it's the manifold itself.

FWIW, I think it's the only rusty part left on your car.

yeah, it's just below the the exhaust manifold flange, 3" into the exhaust pipe.

Yep, I'd try a patch first. I'm sure tape would work fine. It's cheap, so if you don't like the way it looks, you could remove it and see if a weld will stick. I wouldn't recommend the same repair for David's exhaust! :p

I was going to try some chewing gum on mine, first.
I agree with Jeremy, patch it first, if it works, great...if it doesn't, then replace it.
