My wife drove my lx470 in to work 2 weeks ago, I had a snow day and she needed to be at work so I told her to take my car. She called on the way in complaining that the wipers wouldn't turn off while the car was running. The problem ceased when she commuted home and I thought nothing more until today.
The front wipers turn on by themselves when the switch is in the off position. The wipers run at the slow speed (not intermittent). If I position the switch between the detents (any detent) it will stop the wipers, but not at the rest position rather wherever the wipers are when I hold he stalk just right between detents.
If I set the stalk to fast setting the wipers run at fast speed. Otherwise they are constantly running at slow speed.
The problem will not present itself until I drive for a few miles. Also, sometimes the wipers will stop for a short while just out of the blue.
The washer fluid does not spray at all when the wipers are running. Prior to this problem presenting itself there was no problem with washer fluid.
Searchingy issue is somewhat similar to some who said the wipers would not stop at the rest position. This seems to be fixed with a replacement wiper motor.
I'd prefer not to spend much money on a fix and I'm thinking about adding a switch to the circuit by wiring into the fusebox with an inline fuse and using the switch to turn the wipers on instead of the factory stalk.
Perhaps the battery needs replaced and this gremlin is occuring as a result. I haven't had any hard starts lately.
