For those of you here who've repacked your front wheel bearings on your 100, how did you know what snap ring thickness to use? There are 6 thicknesses ranging from 1.8mm to 2.8mm listed in the FSM. The FSM says to select the one that keeps the clearance between the flange and snap ring < 0.008" (0.2 mm). Did you just order two of each size initially, then try each one and stick a 0.008" feeler gauge in there?

Also, how many of you reuse the dust cap and the six flange nuts? The FSM says to replace those. How is the dust cap held on, by a grease seal or an adhesive?

Anyone remember what metric bolt size to use to pull out the axle to install the snap ring. Is it 8x1.25?

Well, I got the scoop by calling CDan plus my local Lex dealer...everyone reuses the c-clips (unless it's mangled or something). Also, they reuse the flange nuts. The parts to replace are the oil seal, lock washer, and gasket. That's it.

Other brake-related stuff:
Also, for brake shims, they only need replacing if in poor condition, like if you live where they salt the roads. OEM front brake pads come in one version for '98-01 and another for '02+. Calipers changed for '03+ (maybe to handle the extra rolling mass of the 18" wheels?; Japanese LC mag says caliper size increased). Rotors are the same through all years. This implies it might not be a good idea to blindly buy aftermarket brake pads for a 98-06 LC since they might not fit all years.

jim come do my brakes next year when i need em. Ied rather pay for your airfare to come to NY then to pay the lex dealership like 100 dollars an hour labor

Tools are too big/heavy to check in! :-)

ill have the tools on hand dont worry...ill borrow them from my friend who works on Heeps...all i need is your knowledge and workmanship. Actually now that i think about it, i dont want tools that touch heeps touching mine....might bring me bad karma or something.
