Hey guys!

I have no idea how this happened on my HDJ101 but a month or two ago the seat belt bolt hardware came loose and saw them lying on the floor. Here is what I have at the moment:

According to the part diagrams, there is no bolt hardware listed that I could possibly purchase separately. So I did some research by acquiring the part number for the seat belt assembly which is 73220-60320-A0 for anybody curious, and saw that I am most definitely missing one of the two big anchor collars (I'm not even sure if I am using the correct term so feel free to correct me otherwise). I used these two photos to determine the missing piece of hardware:

Of course, finding a 100 series Land Cruiser or any other LC for that matter at a local Pick N Pull is next to impossible in my case. And the sole salvage yard that has a 100-series LX470 in DFW is a yard that doesn't allow anybody else to pull parts and will not offer me just the bolt hardware as needed.

So I have no idea on how to proceed with finding this vital part. I refuse to let anybody sit in the front passenger seat until this is resolved, so I only allow passengers to sit in the rear seats to be on the safe side. Any suggestions? Never thought this would be my first post on here as I tend to search the forum via Google for anything regarding my rig before posting anything, but I'm left with no choice.

Thank you!

There are six different bolts holding the seatbelt to the body. Five of them are listed separately in the EPC. Which one are you missing?

If you're missing the bolt that is below the retractor, look for a Tundra or Sequoia around the same year. You may be able steal the bolt from one of those.

I can't tell from the photo, but if the threads are stripped on the bolt, you also need to check the weldnut in the body. If those are gone, you need to fix them, or the bolt won't do you any good.

At worst, if you can't find an OEM bolt, the bolt is a Grade 10.9, M20x1.5, or the equivalent Grade 8, 7/16-20 (these are the same thread series, and are the same as all seatbelt hardware in the US, as mandated by USDOT), flange head hex bolt. You won't find it at a hardware store, but any bolt supplier will have one. Failing that, you can always use a better grade bolt, Grade 12.9 (metric) or Grade 10 (SAE), if you have to.

The entire bolt hardware from the photo is from below the retractor. I was posting this thread from my laptop so I didn’t have a chance to circle the specific area, so I figured the additional photos would have helped.

I am missing one of the two thick collars. The bolt isn’t cross-threaded at all, as seen here:

I did go to a salvage yard that had multiple first gen Sequoias and noticed that they have a slightly different bolt (same size and pitch, but the flange seems to be smaller). Also, that thick collar is one piece and larger, seems to be the size of 3 thick collars from the Land Cruiser, as pictured here:

If that doesn’t make a difference, I will use it if need be.

Luckily I’m not missing a bolt, just one of the two thick collars. I just don’t want to cut corners on something as vital as a seat belt on keeping it secured.

M20x1.5?!?!? You serious? There is absolutely no way, that would be a massive bolt. I used my bolt gauge I have bolted to my wall in the garage and it turned out to be a M12x1.5.

The sleeve is just a piece of tubing used as a spacer. Get one close the the right size and put it in.

You need steel, though, not something soft like copper or aluminum.

Update: the spacer from a 1st-gen Sequoia were a no go, unfortunately.

The spacer is too long - almost 20mm longer than the Land Cruiser one, which is 10mm. It won’t thread on to the hole as a result of the excess length on the spacer.

The Land Cruiser:

The Sequoia:

If only I had the ability to cut the larger one by 9mm at the very least to work the same as the two smaller spacers 🤦🏽‍♂️

a cut off wheel on a grinder would make "short" work of the situation

..or a hacksaw

Sure it won’t be perfect and even, but it will hold it for now with either of those methods.

I have a question regarding the seat belts for the jump seats on my 11/73 build. I just started putting in my seat belts and noticed that the attachment point closer to the front seats are the standard bolt size to accommodate the seat belts to US standards but the rear attachment point is the same diameter as the bolts that hold the roll bar in place. Is this common? I would think both seat belt points would be the same size. Any help would be much appreciated.

Because the genuises who wrote the seatbelt rules at DOT are government idiots, they neglected to consider that a three point seatbelt has three attachment points. Only two of them, the two ends of the belt itself, have to conform to the standard. Most every manufacturer makes all three conform, because it's easier for them to do so. Further, trucks weren't included in the standard until much later after its adoption. 40s were classified as trucks when they were built, for import reasons.
