I have a front runner roof rack, with the front wind deflector.

Although I like the rack, it came with the truck.....it does increase the noise, of course. Without the wind deflector, forget it. Question is:

can there be anything done to stop the noise, or lessen it? Has anyone tried plexiglass or even plywood as a flat surface on top of the rack to minimize noise?

You can add a rubber trim seal to eliminate the gap between the roof and rack's wind fairing. There are a lot of different sizes/thicknesses available and it's relatively cheap.

there is a seal on the bottom of the plate, which registers forward of the rack, with the roof
Photo? I had a frontrunner on my 100 series, and a trim seal helped with the wind noise a fair bit...perhaps a different shape/size would make a better seal. Not sure how different the wind fairing is on the 200 series vs the 100 series.

Are you using the wind deflector that came with the rack (slants back toward the sunroof), or the upgraded fairing? I found that upgraded fairing cuts the wind noise quite a bit compared to the standard included wind deflector.

upgraded fairings:

RRAC143 (standard width, standard height rack)
RRAC144 (extended width, standard height rack)
RRAC174 (standard width, low-profile height rack)
RRAC175 (extended width, low-profile height rack)

no, not missing anything, just wondering if anyone had added to the factory setup to reduce noise

What @sdnative was trying to ask is if you are using the standard deflector that comes with every rack and mounts to the underside of the first slat or if you paid for the upgraded wind deflector. It keeps it much, much more quiet and seems to improve airflow over the rack. The one they recommend for the 200 series is actually one size narrower than this, but the 1345/1425mm fits perfectly. When I had a Front Runner rack this is what I used

Yeah, at my house those standard widgets get used for all sorts of shimming or mock combat applications, but not in the Jimmy Buffetting positioning up on the rack.

That is very odd you're still having issues. When I ran that it was the most quiet I've ever had with a roof rack. Is there any room to move it around a bit? See any gaps between the top edge and the rack itself?
nah it is tight.

I think for a rack it is quiet, but I would like it to be quieter. Might try a few things in the future and report back.
