Hello All, I am a noobie and this is my first thread. I recently bought my parents 2011 LC and I noticed that when I turn the vehicle off there is a loud pop/thump coming from one of the speakers. I also have a 2021 Heritage Edition and it, of course, does not do this. Is a speaker more likely the culprit or the amp? The vehicle has never been wrecked or had water in the inside. Just a typical old person car that hardly ever turned on the radio. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Welcome! A couple trouble shooting questions….. Just one speaker? If so, which one? Does it occur when the audio is off, or only when on?

It appears to be coming from the dash speakers by the windshield

Sorry, also happens with the radio on or off. Just a thump sound coming equally across the dash.

A bit odd. Problems with grounding or internal amp problems usually cause a pop in all speakers and it’s unlikely both dash speakers went bad (low impedance) at the same time. Does the pop happen if you turn off the audio while the vehicle is running?

Well that means it may not be the amp. Somehow a stray signal is getting to those speakers. Any aftermarket electrical stuff like remote starter?

It may appear its coming from all speakers. Just seems more pronounced in the front. It happens only when the vehicle is turned off. Doesn't matter is the radio is on or off. Just thump when I kill the ignition.

Ah, the plot thickens! If the ignition is causing a stray signal to all speakers, I suspect a bad ground. Make sure the battery terminals are clean and the main ground wire from the battery negative to the frame is clean and tight. There are lots of grounds in the dash. Are you certain there has never been water inside from a replaced windshield or leaking cowl? Someone else on here will know where the amp is on an ‘11 and that ground should be checked too.

I did change the battery out for them about 2 months ago. However, they never said anything about a noise when they turned the vehicle off. I will check and clean the battery terminals and also check the ground to the frame. I shall report back! I believe the amp is under the drivers seat from the research I've done. Hope I don't have to buy a 1600.00 amp.
