hi newbie here I just bought a 1982 fj 60 the front drive shaft needs rebuilding
the u joints are good but the plunger or what you call it is rusted away
is there a suppler out there I can buy a rebuild kit from?
I believe it is called a double carden joint

Check out the Spector Off Road web site www.sor.com for some exploded views. AFAIK, the only rebuildable part on the drive shafts are the u-joints. If the spline or yoke is corroded, you may have to replace them. Spector lists the comlete driveshaft new and used (but the new is listed as cheaper than the used, so that doesn't make sense), and you can get them used at cruiserparts.net or maybe G&S. These seem to be still available new from Toyota. You can check with cruiserdan (on this list) from American Toyota. There are probably shops that repair driveshafts, but I don't have experience with any.

Or buy one from someone on the board for $40...

Front 82 FJ60 is a CV shaft ...... good luck finding one for less than $100 :D :D
Loose splines in the slip yoke will work for a long time up front unless you run in 4x4 a lot.
