My Hj47 front doors won't close now after new paint and new weather stripping. Has anyone had this issue after getting the doors repaired and re-installed? The hinges are in but not tightened, so I can adjust them. But even with the door just held up to the door opening, the weather stripping seems to be

too thick. I got the gaskets from SOR, and they're for a FJ40. Is it possible the HJ47 had skinnier rubbers? I thought maybe the doors needed adjustment, but after holding a door up to the opening, it won't lay flush unless I trim the gasket down.

doesn't look like your door hardware is assembled yet?

Get the latch/catch assembled and adjusted and you will find with a nice push of the door the seals should compress. Right now you've got no latch to hold the door in place and compress the seals. When you lean on the door does it sit flush?

No, If I put my full body weight on it, it still sits way out!

I removed the weather stripping and the door fits in the opening. I'll have to modify the gasket or use something aftermarket. The ones I got from SOR are way too thick for the gap I have. Someone must have experienced this before. I posted that question up on the paint and body section here, but no suggestions thus far.

Hiya, I bought some doors for my 40 that had new rubber on them and the doors didn't close either. I ended up cutting pieces out so that the doors would close. I'd also like to know what others have done with this problem.

Best regards, ty

I put new weather strip on my doors a couple of years ago and had a similar experience.

I got the seal from CCOT.

I glued the weather strip in the same place that the old stuff was and my doors closed, but the stuck out about a 1/2 inch.

I thought the strip would settle / compress over time but to date... still stick out about 1/2 inch.

Same problem with CCot stuff....

Now I only buy OEM.. for weather stripping that is...

On a hot day, try and slam the doors so they shut and leave them for a week, should compress bit.. also adjust your striker plate outward and adjust inward as they settle in..

I bought the sor stuff. I can't believe they can even say this is for an fj40 etc.! It's way too thick and a lot harder than original. I've given up on sor after 20-25 years.

Get a hold of Kevin at Wagon Gear, he's a vendor here, and ask him. He sells full kits for 60's, I don't know if he has 40 stuff, but
he might be able to help.

I put OEMToyota weatherstripping on my 40 and it was pretty hard to close. Luckily for me I deployed to Afgh. and it was in storage foe 6 months. When I got back they were nice and form fitted.

Yours look a little further out than mine did, however.

I realize this is an older thread but I'm curious if you ever found a solution? I'm experiencing the same problem with my HJ45 and would love to know what others have done...
