Former 80-owner turned Hundy owner newbie question here fellas.

Can a 6.5 speaker fit the front door locations and still use the factory grille?

My guess the only limitation is depth?

Suggestions for best quality front door speakers?

Thanks!

What model and year 100? I have focal 6.5" separates in the front doors of my 01 LX. Forget the exact model, I think they were the Polyglass 3 ways. But they may have been the 2 ways.

I believe this is correct.
6.5" is the correct size (it looks like 6.75 will also fit) ; depth is the limiting parameter.

There is a way to make the installation easier by cutting the cones and innards out of the factory speakers and re-using the baskets from around the rims of the factory speakers.

I think most folks have been happy with the polk audio stuff. http://www.polkaudio.com/products/dxi6501

I love my Polks.

6-3/4 diameter will fit.

On my LX, I removed the OEM speakers and simply re-drilled the mounting holes to fit the speakers.

Got 6.5 component Focals in the front no prob.

As others stated above, you do have to do some modifying but they'll fit.

Also, 6.5 2-ways in the rear. Similar setup to front.

Does modifying the factory speaker bracket allow a little more wiggle room for a deeper speaker?

Yes, it basically acts as a spacer, giving you more depth. However, it also moves the surface of the speaker out into the vehicle somewhat. My door panel was kind of a tight fit because of it.
