I am trying to figure out if my friends 67 fj40 front axle would give me spare parts for my 78.Do you think the housing would work the same?I am thinking I could use the 67 housing for a cut and turn soa job.Could someone tell me what parts interchange? Thanks.

Short answer, not much except the diff moves. The early axles (break at 68) have ball and cup axles, not birfs. They have drum brakes, not discs. Early axles have a brass bush in place of the later model inner axle seal. I've heard you can remove the bush and machine for the seal, but I have not done that personlly...You can use the diff if you cqare to, but it will have a coarse spline pinion, and different driveshaft flange pattern...
