I agree with the deal, deposit, shipment plan. Worse comes to worse, I could make a trip to CLT with my trailer. Let's hit them up as a sponsor for the Tide Ride! We could make an extra bumper, throw our stickers on it, and raffle it away...

That one might just get misplaced down here at the shop ;):grinpimp:

Thats a damn good idea Brian...

I would be concerned about building the bumper on a truck it won't be installed on, e.g. it seems each bumper should be built ON the truck it will live on. Each vehicle has idiosyncracies, some of which you may be unaware; it'd suck to find out afterwards that your fully built bumper needs to be tweaked.

O and as we discovered in the initial run, those Dewalt flap wheels are frickin' awesome for the rough and finer grinding - they did an amazing job!

Beggars can't be choosers! :D But, I know what you mean Joe. Maybe we could think of something else along the same lines, though...

I do agree and I'd also think one could be built up with enough "room" to fit another rig. Just as Luke must do when he builds them up for the rest of the world. We are the anomaly in getting them as a "kit", normally he does put the kit together for a bolt on application.

And, yes, flap wheels are amazing and the Dewalts do seem to last a bit longer than the cheap ones I've been buying lately...

I build bumpers on a regular basis and Joe does have a good point. What I have learned to do is use spacer shims wherever the bumper makes contact with the frame. Generally I use a 3/32 plate between the bumper and frame. Even then some bumpers are a snug fit. If you are using capture nuts already in the frame for attachement plan on over drilling the holes in the bumper as well. Start with the smallest hole possible to fit the hardware and then drill out another 1/16 to an 1/8 and you should be able to fit capture nut placement.

Dewalts Jerry, Dewalts :)

You can help by buying and building two, and giving me one :flipoff2:

Once again it wouldnt hurt to make a dedicated thread for the purpose since a lot of people wont find it hiding in here. You'd likely get your numbers met quicker.

Robert was in once he sold the house... I think he's the last.

Yes, I am the last. The house hasn't sold. However, this is supposedly sold this Saturday:

1979 Harley Davidson Sportster XLCH

So, it may be in the cards. I am still waiting for a price on the setup with 2 swingouts, tire carrier, and ladder/can carrier.

Robert
