Australian RHD model.
Been looking on the differentials for the ID code/stamp to tell me if they are 37.9 gear ratios or?.
Fire wall plate says Trans is a H41 and Axles are KO82? Is this the 37.9 code?
Am I on track here?

Yep, KO82 is 4.11

Kind of stumbled onto the web site for the listing explanation of the gear ratios for the Cruiser. I am kind of surprised that after 1979 Australia's fleet of incoming FJ,HJ's were not with a 3.70 set up like most of Canada and the US.
Thanks much.

Yeah, I don't know why that is. Just another one of Mr. T's little peculiarities I guess!

There's been a bit of history that suggests our roads are less like smooth american freeways. The first Ford Falcons [XK through XM: 1960 - 1963] suffered consistent ball joint failure due to our 'goat tracks'. Perhaps the thinking behind the 4.11's vs. the 3.70's are for the same goat tracks.

I was told from a landcruiser wrecker we only got the 3.7 diffs with the early 3 speed cruisers all the 4 and 5 speed got the 411 ratio.

I heard that too oz. Are the 3.7's just as strong as the 4.11's? Just thinking you could swap in 3.7's and gain highway MPH when matched to an H55.

I'm sure the diffs will be fine with your F engine but if you had a chev and were planning on four wheel drive burnouts you will have problems. I have read the early 3 speed boxes had a lower ratio transfer case that should bolt up to a 4 speed and give you the best of both worlds. :)
