From Hundy to 2024 LC 250?

I see it less as a successor and more as a reset. What would the successor to the 200 be? If we follow the pattern (in the U.S.) 40-60-80-100-200... The successor would be 3" longer, 2" wider, have a 6.0L V8 and cost $115,000. They had to break the pattern. They should've done it a long time ago.

The 300 series, which we don’t get as a Land Cruiser.
I agree Toyota went too far down the luxury path with the LC (hence why it sold in such dismal numbers for the last two decades). They obviously don’t think American consumers want the LC as it is sold elsewhere in the world so this is what we get.

Because American consumers didnt buy them. The sales numbers speak for themselves.

Poor timing for sure, as the overlanding craze is hitting (probably already has tbh) its peak... but Toyota has never been one to make decisions based on short time frames.

In case it needs to be said, I wish they still offered the LC version of the 300 here. Everyone wishes that. But sometimes you need to be a realist.

Gonna part time my hubs and enjoy more years of no debt.
I don't need $60k cloth seats.

I'm a former 80 and current 100 lover, and I am very intrigued. I don't plan on letting go of my 100, but the 250 might replace the 51% shareholder's Sequoia once she's ready to commit to downsizing. Or, might become my DD. The gas mileage is intriguing, and would allow me to build my 100.

Things I like:
- MPG
- smaller than 200
- poverty pack as an option
- MIJ
- round headlight option
- does not have the disastrous integrated radio/ HVAC/ GPS of 100

Things I don't:
- no tailgate
- 4cyl
- not sold on colors
- unknown drivetrain durability

Toyota has earned my trust not to use badging and take advantage of brand loyalty on a turd.

So, I know, thanks Capt. Obvious.

My only gripe is no 3rd row seating and it appears to have some sort of hump/step down on the cargo area. That being said i will certainly go check it out at the dealer. My wife's Accord will be more than 13 years old and we will be looking for a replacement in the next few years. Ill keep my 100 thank you very much. :)

I fell for trading a 94 80 series, for an 04 T4R V8 Limited 4x4.

I’m still a little cautious about “falling for the banana in the tailpipe” again…

Yes, but part of the thing that I like about the LC/LX/LS, is they don’t seem built to fit a price point. The GX/T4R that I’ve owned, can’t say that. I lean LX600, more than this T4R/GX hybrid.

I can't agree, as in pretty much everything is built to a price point, but point taken. I think you should buy one brand new in that case, haha. If more people bought the 200 series LC brand new, we'd have the 300 series LC.

I dont love the LX that much - the infotainment seems like a big miss, and although I've seen/sat in them and they look decent in person, that GX looks WAY better - but of course thats an opinion.

My guess is I will end up with a GX or a Taco. I dont dislike anything about the 250 LC, I just think Toyota is doing a great job with the TNGA platform, which means theres numerous good options.

Yes, but I have purchased a 94 80 series, and 06 100 series new, and owned them 10+ years, and 100k+ miles. I never developed enough attachment to the 200 series to buy one new.

I’ve also purchased an 03 GX, and 04 T4R new, and in my opinion they “weren’t a Land Cruiser (or LX)”, read as falling apart in <10 years, and <100k miles.

Maybe I’d be happier with a US (new) 70 series, than a reskinned, retro style, GX/T4R, but what do I know, I didn’t fall for the FJ Cruiser either…

200 nrever did it for me either, or I'd have bought one new as well. I was a little young to buy a 100 brand new. Ironic part is I'd probably buy a new 300 LC. That being said the GX is hitting it out of the park for me, but the new Taco is interesting too, I dont have any trucks, so a bed could come in handy.

I don't really understand the bitching and moaning from so many people. Admittedly its nice that here on 'mud its not as bad here as on the FB groups. But its the same damn chassis and all these trucks are sharing a lot of parts... there is more similar in all these vehicles than there are different.

From past experience…

I question the interior materials (03 GX, 04 T4R dashboards disintegrating, with a “bird” from Toyota/Lexus, until after I’d sold them both.

I somewhat question the turbo I-4. The 2UZ-FE is/was not great at gas mileage, nor was is exceptionally powerful, but it does/did seem understressed and reliable. Am I going to be happy with the electric hybrid stuff on a 250, in 15-20 years?

Then again, I remember the 60 series guys bitching about the 80 series, the 80 series guys bitching about the 100 series, and the 100 series guys bitching about the 200 series.

Maybe sharing parts is nice, in that there might be a Marlin Crawler RCLT, a LT Sequoia/Tundra swap, or Marlin TacoBox, but I was fine with unique/oddball LC/LX only parts, that were specifically engineered for the platform, vs being borrowed from something else.

this thread is marginal for the 100 forum, so let's focus more specifically on 100 vs 250 please if it is to be kept here

Not sure they should keep the LC name, rather have them call it a Prado. Agree with others an LC is not like anything else the built; at least my 100 vs anything from that period.

I did think to myself after seeing this though that replacing my wife’s 4R with a newer less thirsty Prado would be pretty sick, in a few years…

Something about the smooth 2UZ and 100s style that just doesn’t seem to age (smiles per gallon)

I think the 100 has aged really well. The 200 always looked like a bloated Highlander. What I like about the 250 is the front end design is a fresh departure from the Sequoia, T4R, Taco, and Highlander. Especially with the round lights, but even the square light trim looks unique.

I'm not a fan of the smaller screen on the 1958 - just make them all the same for gods sake.

Not that there is supposed to be any resemblence to the 100 Series and the new 250 Series, I figure I'd attempt to keep this thread on topic by showing some comparison photos of what we're used to and what the new cruiser will be. Obviously, the real comparison would be the 300 series but thats another conversation.
