Thinking of getting an 2008 gx470 to replace a 2001 lx470, glad to see people like their gx's.

  • I wasn't counting on the "ooh look who has a Lexus" factor in a used car. In truth, I feel more than just a little bit the ass while driving it, but I'm getting over it. (Really though, more trees died for these interiors than from the Mt St Helens' eruption, and there are whole Little Leagues who have to play bare-handed due to the great swaths of leather gobbled up for the model year) Then again, my clients no longer insist on driving to lunch as they did when I rolled up in a lifted and brutal-looking XJ. (They were smart too :hillbilly: )

LOL... Your buddies giving you hell for trading in the Jeep? I like how everyone just assumes we paid $60k for our cars just because it is a Lexus.

Nobody Misses the Heep

Everybody hated riding in that Jeep. Total deathtrap. Awesome under 10MPH —lightweight, locked, lifted & over-tired, no swaybar. However, it was nearly impossible to keep pointed forward when slowing from speed. More nose dive than Kate Moss at a coke party, and far less stable.

Plus, about 20% of the body had either rusted off or been knocked off due to off-trail excursions. ANd I'm not going to talk about the mold in the passenger floorboard.

Clients took one look at it and said "How about you ride with me?" I usually parked around the block to prevent sightings.

Here's a pic after the current owner painted some flames on it. (It's the good side:D)

He has a few other XJs, and I think he's only using it for parts (Rubicon Express suspension and the bumper I'd imagine). He may build tallbikes, but isn't suicidal enough to make it a dd. :)

Anyway, nobody is complaining about not riding in the Jeep, but I'd get a lot less raised eyebrows and sly "you must be doing OK" references in a (more expensive with less options) 4R.

In between the Jeep and this was an 05 F150 and a Ford Escape (don't even think about reading the thread where I tried selling it here. Everyone will get thrown into the chit faster than you can say Foghorn Leghorn) So my wife is viewing the 470 as he Escape all growed up.

Interestingly, we really wanted a 4th Gen 4R, but had trouble finding one with a third row (sure it's a joke, but it's nice for other people's kids) and leather. In fact, the GX was a full $5K cheaper than the last 4R we looked at, which was a year newer, but the same miles, no 3rd row, no lockers, no leather, V6.)

It took us forever to find the 4R we wanted (V8, 4WD, 3rd row seats, black paint, SR5, factory tow package, standard tranny) so when we found it I bought it that day! Sadly it wasn't a standard (they don't exist in the us) and the paint was dark, but not black, oh well you can't have it all. Your new ride looks great...Congrats!
