Recently picked up a 2008 Tundra to be a house project workhorse & DD (Better MPG than my LX). My initial plan was to keep the LX as my overland/expedition vehicle BUT when I asked the kids what they wanted to take for an upcoming trip the Tundra was the choice. The space in the rear of the LX just can't compete with the added leg room of the Tundra. Ideally I would sell the LX and upgrade the Tundra to a 14+ to get some added features (mainly the bigger gas tank) but I just can't part with the LX.

Anyways the start of the build is going to be mild and I hope to add more overlanding features when I can score deals or used parts. For now I will continue to baseline everything. I may start moving some things from LX. I will follow the same outline as I did with my LX build thread and hope to gain more knowledge of the Tundra platform & 5.7L as I go.

Only planned "upgrade" for now is tires as current are worn.

Modifications:

Suspension:
Rear - Bilstein 5100 (Replaced OEM due to leaking shock which did not pass inspection)

275/70-18 Nitto Terra grapplers (Planned)

Filter - OEM
Diff Fluids - Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90

Transmission - Amsoil Signature Series
Brake - not done yet
Grease - Amsoil

Replaced transmission fluid yesterday, obvious from old fluid it had never been done. I was having an issue with downshifting where the engine would rev a bit prior to shifting. Initial results with the new fluid is this issue is gone.

Good video on how to change fluid:
