Im resurrecting this thread because I did a search and nothing came up that is cost effective aside from your design.
The spare tire must weigh a bit more than your 10gal of fuel/wanter. So I'm sure that factory cable can handle it. Worst case... add two straps across the botton front and rear of the AL bin.
Im very curious how this thing has held up off road in the long time since you've last posted on this thread.
r2m, it's best to discuss this in a different thread but here is what I'm talking about:
CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS:
49CFR393.67, Liquid Fuel Tank (partial): “c) Construction of Fuel Tanks, (5) Fuel withdrawal fittings. Except for diesel fuel tanks, the fittings through which fuel is withdrawn from a fuel tank must be located above the normal level of fuel in the tank when the tank is full.”
You wouldn't store your full jerry cans in your garage, upside down with the spout on the bottom either, would you? They might seal 100% but if they do leak, that is likely where they will leak first.

I can add to this thread. For about $100 worth of 1/8 sheet, I was able to build a skid to hold 4 gallons of air and 16 gallons of water. It worked out really nicely.
'06 with charcoal canister intact.

Ooooh, me too! I'd definitely be in for one of those. Maybe the next owl expedition product!? It would be nice having an option to choose from one without air to achieve even great clearance if you didn't need the air tank.I can add to this thread.
