here's a couple more pics. 3/16 aluminum box just large enough to hold two 5 gallon cans.

The cable looks adequate, I'd be more concerned if the end of it is strong enough for the extra weight long term. Pretty good idea for some extra fuel/water if you have a bumper mounted spare.

Im resurrecting this thread because I did a search and nothing came up that is cost effective aside from your design.

The spare tire must weigh a bit more than your 10gal of fuel/wanter. So I'm sure that factory cable can handle it. Worst case... add two straps across the botton front and rear of the AL bin.

Im very curious how this thing has held up off road in the long time since you've last posted on this thread.

I never adapted this idea to my personal vehicle. I do know the guy that had this made though and he's made many trips to Baja and has had no issues. I prefer my gas cans mounted to my rear swing out as they're easier to fill and I use a super siphon to transfer to main tank. Still looking into mounting a plastic RV type water tank in the space where the spare tire was.

r2m, it's best to discuss this in a different thread but here is what I'm talking about:

CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS:

49CFR393.67, Liquid Fuel Tank (partial): “c) Construction of Fuel Tanks, (5) Fuel withdrawal fittings. Except for diesel fuel tanks, the fittings through which fuel is withdrawn from a fuel tank must be located above the normal level of fuel in the tank when the tank is full.”

You wouldn't store your full jerry cans in your garage, upside down with the spout on the bottom either, would you? They might seal 100% but if they do leak, that is likely where they will leak first.

I guess I should change MY name to FIREBALL.... I have the 45 gal front runner aux tank... and a couple of propane tanks on the rear bumper.... The vehicle WAS registered and had California plates when I purchased it so with that said, I'm not sure how psycho they are about it. The only thing different rom the PO was he removed the dual filler neck. It's back on there now. AND a fuel pump transfers the fuel to the main tank.

I installed a simple ABS water tank under my '03 a while back. It holds ~12 gallons and can usually keep everyone hydrated for a long weekend. Any longer or if people are showering and it would be nice to have a bit more capacity.

The tank is held up with simple parts from the local hardware store and uses existing holes...no drilling required. An RV-style pump runs the water to an outlet just under the hitch receiver of the Slee bumper. I extended the breather up along the side of the tailgate to keep dust out and prevent the water from sloshing out when the tank is full.

Since taking the picture above, I also added a small air tank to speed up tire inflation. The tank is tucked up along the drivers side of the water tank and also bolted up using existing holes. Not satisfied, I tapped and plumbed in one (so far) of my sliders to add to compressed air capacity. The air exits alongside the water outlet under the bumper.

Fuel stays in 3 jerry cans on the bumper.

In total:

- 15 gallons of additional fuel
- 12 gallons of water
- A bunch of air

Pretty happy with this configuration short of the Frankenstein's monster look of the whole thing. It works.

@perrobravo , can I hassle you for more pics of your underbody setup? Would like to see how everything is located and attached to the frame. I assume you removed the crossmember that holds the stock spare tire hoist? Also can you please share more details of your plumbing setup and the actual parts/fittings used.

@SanDiegoCruiser your inbox is full...
I ran across this picture of the RotoPax mounted to the Slee ladder. Looks great!
Do I need any special hardware to do this? Does a single mount reach thru the ladder to secure both Pax and kind of "pinch" the ladder?
also love the little work surface on the backside of the ladder! I was thinking about doing something like this myself.. did you build it or who has these available?
thanks!

I can add to this thread. For about $100 worth of 1/8 sheet, I was able to build a skid to hold 4 gallons of air and 16 gallons of water. It worked out really nicely.

'06 with charcoal canister intact.

Ooooh, me too! I'd definitely be in for one of those. Maybe the next owl expedition product!? It would be nice having an option to choose from one without air to achieve even great clearance if you didn't need the air tank.

I suppose it depends on how much you need / if it needs to be drinkable. I have a Waterport installed on my swingout. Only 4 gallons but its pressurized and I use it mostly for dirty dish duty.

Room in cab for drinkable water hanging from racks and can fill up the waterport with stream water if needed and repressurize.

Hey all! Just saw this. I don't have any plans as of now to produce the skid/mount. It was kind of a one off project. Main reason is the exhaust has to be modified to fit. The factory exhaust/resonator won't work. I'd bet any small fab shop near you would be able to come up with something though.
