Hello,

I had my A/C done in the early fall (in Ontario) and they said no leaks but they didn't know how many lbs. of freon to put in. They tried twice to get it close.

The tricky bit is a day or 2 after getting the A/C done my transmission blew. By the time I had the new tranny in it was well into winter so I dunno whats up with my A/C. It's blowing warm/hot air now at 25C/77F +- in Florida.

Of course the other tricky bit is the fridge console which is rare and not in their books.

Does anyone know the proper capacity of freon for the 80 series with fridge/freezer console?

I have a 1993 diesel left hand drive 80 from Panama.

Thanks
Matt

From the FSM:
Single AC 900±50g (31.74±1.76oz)
Dual AC 1500±50g (52.91±1.76oz)
Dual AC + Cool.Ice Box 1600±50g (56.43±1.76oz)

So, the ice box must take 100g itself.

Usually there is a sticker on the core support with that info. Is yours R12 or R134? US '93s could be either depending on the build date.

Can you post some pics of your cool box?

that is cool! does it freeze and cool?

really ..? good ..! are you still here ..?

We are back in Canada now. My inlaws are down at the moment. Playa Blanca in Cocle. We loved panama. We were there for a few years.

We did have a hard time getting the truck out of Panama because they started enforcing their law that says that you must be a resident of Panama to export a vehicle. I did have my aduana papers from the previous year (before my engine blew) so that is how I got it out.

How are you getting by with the subway construction?

Cheers
Matt

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I figure it's the most appropriate for anyone else searching. My R134 is leaking, and I'm pretty sure it's from the fridge. Has anyone else run into this? What's the best option here. I have a feeling it's related to the fridge being an R12 model, so it likely doesn't play nice with the couplings or something? -cheers

nothing short of adding dye and using a UV light to check fittings. You'll have to pull the front carpet I think to access all the fridge fittings.

I am in Japan and went to a local parts store that gets OEM parts...they said the factory console evap was discontinued. Hopefully it isn't leaking since I don't know that you could find a replacement. I also checked several online stores and could not find a replacement (though the listed price was something like $700 for a center evap). I use JAPANESE GENUINE OEM PARTS CATALOG|JP-CarParts.com to look at parts diagrams and search for part numbers. While it is for JDM vehicles, I'd imagine the center console cooler is the same.

I had R12 in mine, but it was proving very difficult to get R12 in Japan. So I used R134. My AC works in the front, console and rear. I replaced all the o-rings, drier, front evap, and added R134 conversion fittings to the compressor to get my AC working. It's cold and while I haven't tried to make ice yet, I think it's cold enough that it would. The ice compartments frost over very quickly.

You don't have to pull the carpet. The fittings can be reached from underneath the vehicle (look at the floorboard above the transmission). The center console plastic comes off the console fridge unit, without removing any fittings.
