As some of you know I have an 87 truck that the frame has gone bad on. I found a frame that I was hoping to pick up this saturday but it has no title with it. I have heard about reconstructed titles but do not really know what this is? I will only be using the frame, everything else (body and drivetrain) will be from the 87 which I do have a title for. What do you think I should do? Thanks

Shhhh,

If you that worried about it grind off the old ### and stamp on some new ones that match your title.

I must say I've never seen a inpection station check my frame ##'s to the body.

This my be illegal.

thats what i was thinking...or maybe even cutting the vin off the old frame out and welding it to the new one :) if all goes to plan this weekend my next project will be mounting my 87 extra cab body onto a 81ish frame that I am buying in rolling condition with both solid axles rebuilt ;p

sounds like a good plan... I would not worry too much about the frame number (though technically it may potentially be a sticking point) the reality is the VIN plate and the title match... move along sir : )

yeah more of my problem will be deciding what to do with the truck...maybe another trail truck? or DD? not sure. Jeff what are you doing with those 35's that came off the mini truck??

If the truck title is clear now and hasn't been totalled or anything, you don't need to worry about weird title stuff. You are simply repairing an already clear titled vehicle...even if that repair is replacing the entire frame.:D

The Reconstructed Vehicle title happens if a vehicle has been totalled and repaired back to original status. So, if your vehicle hasn't been totalled, you can skip this.

Considering your title isn't branded yet (I'm assuming), just put the new frame on it and move along! VIN matching among vehicle parts is not part of a state Safety Inspection.
