Hi All,

bought my LC100 2004 (V6) last year. The Four Wheel Drive indicator used to appear after a few seconds whenever I pressed the switch.

But now when I press the switch, Four wheel drive turns on but the indicator (light / LED) does not appear.

Could some one tell me what do I have to change ?

That is not the 4wd switch. The 100 series is full time all wheel drive. The switch you have pictured is the center differetial lock, which is electronically activated. One of two things is happening; either the diff lock isn't engaging, or you simply have a bad bulb in the dash.

Can you tell whether or not the diff lock is engaging?

my mistake,

when I press this, differential lock is engaging

He could have a 105 series with I6, not a V8. If that's the case, he may also have a part-time transfer case, unlike our Stateside full time 4wd.

Cancer, you should feel a binding in your steering wheel when (carefully) turning your steering wheel, when driving. This would indicate your centre diff lock (in your pic) is properly working. If so, the bulb in your button needs replacing.
Good luck.

It is a 105 series, I6

When I press this button, I hear a little sound and I feel binding in steering wheel while turning. Differential lock sounds like working. A friend of mine tested it a few days back as I'm not an expert

The indicator is making me worry. I thought to solve this issue at earliest

Cancer, that's good news. Sounds like it's just the bulb that needs replacing. I believe the CDL button requires a #74 type bulb. To access the bulb, you'll need to remove the entire bezel surrounding the radio/climate controls, etc. This is what I did to convert to LED bulbs. Once off, you should be able to locate what needs attention.

Thank you. It will take it to fix it. :)

it was a typo. I will fix it

No big deal. That's why next to your handle it says rookie. :grinpimp:

Removing the bezel should take only 5 minutes when you know what you are doing. Maybe 20 minutes if you are uncertain and being really careful.

I still don't know if mine is working. The dash doesn't show that it is. What should I feel/hear when I push the button? Can it be engaged in N or D?

You can engage the CDL in any gear, depending on how much it's used it will engage very easily to having to work it out in a gravel lot to free it up (actuator may stick if it's never been used). You should hear a click or little motor. Put it in reverse and engage it, drive backwards turning the wheel back and forth. Should here is and see the lights come on. I've never had mine not engage, only not dis-engage.

The light on mine went out a few weeks ago. 230miles on the clock. If you shift the t-case into L that should also make the light come on.

I was just out messing with mine, and I put it in 4lo and no lights or anything...but for a split second the center diff indicator and the vsc lights came on....then went back off. I couldnt get them back on again. Am i doing something wrong? I know the bulbs arent out.

2000+ rigs don't automatically lock the CDL in low range. No lights will come on when you switch to low range. Only when you press the CDL button will the VSC and CDL lights go on.

my lights don't.
I saw them for a second, so I know that the bulbs are good. But, I have no idea whats up with them.

To see if your center diff is working, go to the end of a cul-de-sac or big parking lot. Engage center diff button, and drive in a tight circle. if the wheels chirp or seem to skip it should be working fine. If you feel no or hear no difference with the button pushed or not, then it isnt working.

What year is your truck? 98-99 years will automatically enage the center diff. when putting it in 4LO. 2000+ will not engage unless center diff button is pushed.

See above. A little more information about your truck may help us figure out what is going on.

It does that in any four-wheel drive vehicle (f250,jeep jk) without the diff lock, so how is that a way to figure it out?...

Not the case anymore; that's more of an old adage.

And besides ... when the CDL engages and disengages in the LC, it's substantially different enough that you'll easily "feel" the difference. Drive a figure 8 in a parking lot while paying attention to the "feel of steering, tension in the steering wheel, how the wheels sound etc", then stop, engage CDL, repeat the same figure 8 and you'll notice the difference. If you have any wondering about the "feel" of difference while doing this procedure, then you should assume it's not working.

Sometimes the lil motor that actuates the CDL in the Xfer case stops working or gets sticky. Mine worked exponentially better after a fluid flush of the Xfer case. Used to stick for minutes at a time and even take several attempts of pushing the button to work but after the flush it turns it right away on the first try.

I'm pretty sure it's still the case...my 2007 jk unlimited did it. the 2005 f250 does too. Neither of those have the center diff lock. I will give the figure 8 thing a try and see if its actually working. What would I need to do a xfer case fluid flush?

That's because both of those older systems that you listed are mechanical in nature, and the fact is once you put both those into 4wd, it is automatically locked front to back. There is no center differential in those machines. A true part time 4wd system.

There are hundreds of newer vehicles with center differentials such as the landcruiser where you have the option of full time (open center diff) or auto locking, or manual locking, or electronic/viscous combinations of the sort. In many of these, there is the center locking button to split the torque equally front/back.
